Humming in Whirlpool Side by Side Refrigerator

There is a humming noise coming from my side by side. May be related to ice maker? When it happens I've been lifting the lever to just stop the ice maker, which eventually stops the noise. Doesn't make the noise all the time, or at least not that loud. Is still making and dispensing ice and water. Sound coming more from the freezer side, towards the back.

Took mine to dealer. No help. Extra noise at 1:30 am and 3:00 am. Makes "Sleepless in Seattle" a real comedy. It is not ice maker. since we turn it off at night. I get up and turn off refigrator and let it stay off 30 min then turn back on no noise. Starts again at 3:30 and I repeat the refig turnoff procedure. This is a Norcold 121x. It sounds like a fan stalling while trying to come on. Any suggestions? xfed

Ours sounds like a ghostly hum that varies up and down in tone lasting about 3 seconds. At times it is not as noticeable, but others, especially at night, it resonates through the entire place, like a crazed banshee! Our landlord won't do anything about it, and instisted that it was fine when he checked it out. It's not ALL the time, but pretty darn constant.

One posting of a similar model suggests a bad board for the variable speed fan controller, which GE replaced free of charge due to manufacturer's defect. Any similar such luck on this model?

My husband had to move overseas because of the economy here in the US, I read these websites about my various household problem solving and Yes, it worked again, peak behind the top shelf in the freezer...is it iced over? well all those important parts are frozen back there too. Use a blow dryer, it took me 2 hours with 2 blow dryers, but once the ice was gone, this fridge runs like new. LG still makes me smile. Dont hate on it, if you dont want to know how to fix it.

It is probably just your water inlet solenoid being activated. Not to be concerned.

Freezer side is making an extremely loud humming sound. Ice maker is working fine. No ice buildup anywhere in the freezer that we can see. Loud humming goes on for a few minutes each hour.

Hey Joanne, I appreciate your inquiry!

Based off my understanding the freezer side of your Frigidaire refrigerator is making a loud humming noise. The humming sound could be coming from your compressor. If the sound is a new development it may be a possible issue with the fan pushing further against the wall. You may need to seek help from a professional technician for proper diagnosis and repair. This will help you from purchasing any unnecessary parts. Hope this information is helpful to you. -Matt

Humming noise. Seems to be coming from the fan.

Your freezer humming noise is likely coming from either the fan motor or the ice maker.

Humming noise comming from around the ice maker

If you had your water cut off to the ice maker and didn't have the ice maker turned off, it was your ice maker. You turn it off by lifting the wire arm and leaving it in the up position.

Frigidaire side-by-side model # FRS26H5ASB4 making humming or buzzing noise

I had the same problem. I found the buzzing noise was caused by ice build up around the fan motor inside the freezer. I believe water must have leaked down around the fan during a defrost cycle. I removed the ice maker, the ice cube bin and ice dispenser auger motor. It sounds complicated, but it isn't too bad. The ice maker and auger are connected with quick connect plugs. So just unplug, remove the screws and remove them from the freezer. You will need to remove several other screws as well, I believe 11 in total as well as the top freezer rack. This will give you access to the white aluminum panel that runs from the top of the freezer to about halfway down the back of the freezer. After you remove the aluminum panel you will see the fan about half way down the freezer. I found a lot of ice around my fan. The fan blades were hitting the ice causing the buzz. Remove the ice and the buzzing is gone. It took me an hour to complete this repair. I hope this helps.

My whirlpool aide by side fridge icemaker is making buzzing or humming noise

Hello
Welcome to fixya.
I'm Huuum and happy to assist you,

You said, your ice maker is making a buzzing or humming noise ice maker isn't making much ice. . fridge is about 2 1/2 years old.

This sounds like a clogged water line or a electrical short !
I would get service rather than take a chance on electrical fire.
Or burn up the circuit in the ice maker.

Thank you for giving us the opportunity to advise you.
