Question about Computers & Internet

Win 98 SE recovery using Ghost 2.0.

I am trying to use the recovery disks for my HP OmniBook XE2 Notebook to recover & do a factory installation of Windows 98SE which crashed. After the program creates the partion and loads diagnostics it starts running the recovery for about 5% finished then I get a Read Fault eror 0x0B. I have had it retry several times with the no results. Critical error called & recovery stops. When it comes back to DOS it says Decompression error -3. Is there a suick solution for this or any solution? PSTOG!

compiling the image via Ghostcast Explorer then re-applying image sometimes solves this issue.

Looks like the disks you are installing from are unreadable where the error comes up .

Hi,
A 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
The service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
Good luck!

Driver download

Hi; I need a little more information from you. There are 5 variants of the Omnibook XE2, appended -DI, -DD, -DE, -dc, -DB. Please consult the bottom of your laptop to find the correct model number.
Once you find it, please select the appropriate driver download page from this link: (http://www8.hp.com/us/en/support-search.html?tab=1#/qryterm=Omnibook%20XE2%7C%7C&searchtype=s-002)
Have a nice day.

21/10/09 Hallo. Re.: hp Omnibook XE2. Upgrade hard disk drive 20 GB or 30 Gb. I would like to know if some one has installed a 20 GB or 32GB hdd and if he has any problems with that. I would like also to...

the HDD best to use is an SSD.
the HDD was a standard, 2.5? PATA drive for laptops

why would you want such a small drive, they dont make them now. (40 smallest?) new.

this PC is not supported by HP now, its too old a Pentium III no less.
why would 20gb be and upgrade.?? 10 now? omg , it is 10GB...then... and worse its PATA (IDE) harddrive.

its 17 years old now, most are in the recycle bin,
it came with windows 95 or 98, (hopeless that OS)
the laptop has zero value now, so is putting a new
$50 to 100 dollar drive,is wise,?
what if there are more problems, (endless when that old)

you can not use modern, SATA drive (
just 2.5" PATA (IDE) (pata is wide parallel interface with wide ribbon cable)
here are some

Wireless set up with Omnibook XE2-DB Windows 98

there is no support for PC that old at all. and for sure windows 98
heck goodWill stores , throws those in the trash help,
they are no longer viable. period
same store sells $10 laptops that are 10 years old with Windows 7
and 100000 better than that old hunk of junk,
sorry but that is a fact.

RadioLan 140 PCMCIA (now called PC-card, i like the old name too)
what make you think they still in business or even sell driver for it.
company from 1999 , the book on it says
that card came with a Disk to install the driver, lost that.
good luck finding THAT. (omg, so rare... )

http://manualzz.com/doc/769802/radiolan-140-mobilink-user-guide

this old note book , no longer supported by HP or MS
has 1 USB port , no wifi, no ethernet, yes, dial up modem.
if USB works (test it , i bet it dont")

they try to buy a USB,wifi dongle that has windows 98
drivers with it. Be hard to do and the software if downloaded
will be rife with viruses...

The choices are , again.
1: that dial up port, there called the modem jack.
2: PCARD that has drivers for wifi, seems your are (rare to none)
3: USB wifi with win98 drivers.
4: USB with ethernet port, and win98 driver (most dont)

or get a real PC> from Goodwill for like $10 ,
or 2010 and newer PC of any kind from anyplace.
get one with W7 and newer OS for full support.
this thing you have is like finding parts for a Dueseberg car.

these old laptops are seen in garage sales for $1
due to the lack of support. and the fact that putting say
a new HDD is 100x more.

Fogotten password

If it is the Windows password that was forgotten, you can google Offline NT Password Recovery & Registry Editor and use that to blank your password in order to gain access. The download is an ISO image that must be burned to a CD, then you boot your computer with this CD which runs a small dedicated linux kernel and text-based application that will allow you to change your passwords on the accounts or blank them. The change functionality does not always work correctly so you should just choose to blank the password instead.

MAKE SURE YOU READ ALL OF THE DOCUMENTATION SINCE MISTAKES WHILE USING THIS TOOL CAN RENDER YOUR SYSTEM INOPERABLE AND MAY REQUIRE REINSTALLING EVERYTHING.
