Question about ICM286 Furnace Control Board

1 Answer

I'm trying to install a Venstar T5900 programmable stat to a Goodman GSK91155DXAC furnace with an ICM board. R, W, Y, G, and C are used. Everything works with exception of when calling for heat. An error code "8" shuts off the burners after a second or so. The code from the control board manual is "C terminal must be grounded to furnace or you have a faulty thermostat". Does this mean I must ground C to the furnace, or it senses that and thus the issue? Thanks.

Ok, the ICM286 control board is the issue. With the original control board in place (a PCB00110) the system works fine?

Hello, Often times the clarity of the "C" terminal is faint in the instructions. The "C" terminal should be naturally grounded from the transformer. So yes make sure it is grounded. Double check that the "C" is constant from furnace to thermostat to outdoor unit.

Also make sure the furnace is properly grounded.

Holle back if needed.

I have a similar issue - replacing a B18099-26 with a ICM286 on my Goodman GS9. Same symptom - burners ignite, then almost immediately are extinguished followed by the eight flashes code. I was assuming the "thermostat" in the guide was not referencing a temp limit switch. My thermostat is battery operated and has no connection on its "C" terminal. Is this the problem?

All York/JCI thermostats made by Venstar

The setup is probably incomplete. Did you configure the thermostat for a 2 stage heat pump? The heat pump should have a thermostat wire connected to R, C, Y1, Y2, and O, that makes 5 wires. I suspect you are only using first stage compression and or first stage blower speed.

Trying to set my goodman gmvc9570 two stage furnace to low fire all the time but do not have the manual to show me how can u help

Move dipswitch 3 on circuit board to on position. This way furnace will only kick into high if you have 2 stage stat and stat tells it to kick in.
http://www.goodmanmfg.com/Portals/0/pdf/M-Info/IOs/IO-GMVC8.pdf This web site will be for a gmvc80 but I believe the stages work the same. Page 17 is the setting you need.

Gooman heater connected to electronic lux 500 thermostat. no response from heater at all. tried changing batteries in thermostat.could thermostat possibly be bad. had both for approx.11 years

Remove t-stat and remove red and white wires and connect them, if unit starts then it was the t-stat.
If not go to furnace and remove same two wires at furnace and jump out at circuit board or connect wires FROM furnace, if it starts the problem is in wires.
If you have power to furnace?? and nothing happens it is either a bad board or inducer motor (little one) is not starting. Remember that their is a fuse on corcuit boards that need to be checked.

I have outside Goodman-Janitrol furnace and air unit and

two things to try first to get you pointed in the right direction. First disconnect the R or RH wire from the T-Stat. If the furnace turns off (Stops firing w/ fan to turn offabout 90 sec. later) then you more than likely have a bad Thermistat. If it continues to run Pull the R wire from the Furnace circuit board. put door back on furnace if it stops you have a short in the wire. Still Running? Most likely a bad curcuit board. Hope this helps.

GMPN 100-4 furnace. Blower motor runs when not calling for heat.

The board is bad. The unit thinks a flame is present, so it tells the blower to come on. Replace the board.

make sure the blower is not set on rather than auto or the blower will run all the time. You might want to disconnect the thermostat and test the low voltage circuit to make sure the wires are not shorted

Goodman furnace

double check your wiring. R terminal on the furnace will provide 24 volts to the t-stat. W terminal in the t-stat will send 24 volts back to the furnace W terminal to turn on the heat. G terminal in the t-stat will send power to the G terminal in the furnace when the t-stat is switched to fan on. Y terminal in the t-stat will send power to the Y terminal in the furnace which in turn will send 24 volts to the A/C outside. The C terminal in the furnace should be connected to the c terminal in the A/C outside as well as to the T-stat. Check the fuse again

the pressure switch is closed before the draft motor closes it.the board is telling you that this is not right.pull the wire(either) off of the pressure switch to see if furnace tries to light.if it does, you should replace the pressure switch.
