So, I literally just bought my first phone today, and I locked myself out. I have been trying to answer my new pattern, but its always wrong. The option to use Gmail has never came up. I want to not reset I, but use it because I just got it.

Re: pattern lock out
The only way to reset the phone is to be logged in, and you cannot do that as you are locked out. Since you bought your phone from T-Mobile, take it back and they may be able to help you with it. Since you are locked out, there may not be much else you can do. In the future, don't put a password into a phone until you get used to it. Try a session with the user guide. Putting in a wrong password 10 times, could lock you out permanantly.
A 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

if you have forgotten your pattern lock, just
give a few more tries to continue, then a message will display, the OS will
report attempts exceeded, then enter your gmail address and in the textbox
for password just give value as NULL

Ok, So I just had the same thing happen to me last night and I just fixed it. It'll take 2 people to do it. I went on to my gmail and changed my pattern, after a few minutes my phone had a triangle with an exclamation mark come up in the notifications bar. Don't bother turning off your phone...mine didn't reset for the pattern after 7 hours of being turned off. At this point, once you get that triangle, get someone to call your phone, it'll unlock it for a few minutes. Just long enough for you to change the password on your phone by clicking into that arrow. Then your phone will lock again after the call is done. Put the new password into your phone again on this screen. Then it'll ask you to draw another pattern. Draw something simplistic, then if you want to take it back off just go back into your settings and remove the lock....just remember your pattern this time! hope this helps!
Wait, when you bought the phone from the guy, did he factory reset it first? i.e. did you have to sign in with your gmail account before using it? If the answer to that is yes, then you shouldn't have to get the other guys details. Did you put in your username as email@example.com? Because you need the googlemail, not just gmail. If the answer to the first question was no, then you could try factory resetting the phone yourself by pressing home and end call together for about 20 seconds till a triangle with an exclamation point and a phone come up, then press alt+l, then select factory reset using the trackball. However this will erase all your text messages, as the phone will be just like it was when it was bought new.
