Hi, you might want to blow out the keyboard with some canned air. Dust can cause contact problems. One way would require an external keyboard. Hook up the keyboard, boot up the computer and go into system set up. When the Dell screen comes up it will show what key to push. I think it's F2. Scroll through the BIOS until you get to display settings and set the brightness. When done push F10 and save your settings. The display brightness will be set.

SOURCE: Keys dont work.alternative way to change brightness?

Yes you can go into your display properties and look in the settings tab and look for advanced click that and open color tab or the overlay tab, color tab should get your brightness turned up, And if you can't see you can go into your bios and adjust your brightness from there and get it back to where you can see it if you can't write me back here so we can try another method. Ok I hope that helps you out somewhat, Oh yeah you can also hook up an external key board into your usb connections and you should be able to work everything from that too.

SOURCE: fn birghtness key not working

If the "fn" key works with other "fn" command buttons it may be the drivers. Your machine came with a CD of drivers. I would visit Dell's Support website, plug in your "Service Tag" number (found on a label on your machine) and download the latest if your CD is missing. Re-install these drivers. Look into the "Dell Quickset Utility."

How do I adjust brightness on my Dell Latitude D6...

Look for a key labeled "Fn" (blue lettering) on the lower left side of the keyboard

Hold the "Fn" key and then use the Up/Down arrows to adjust brightness.

If that doesn't work, reboot your laptop and get into the BIOS. There is a screen for brightness. I don't recall how it is labeled, but it's one of the last pages as you cycle through the BIOS options.

I need to see where the wires connect from the screen inside latitude d-820

The cable exits the screen just above the 'Pause' key and runs to the left some. The video connector for the D820 is pretty much right below the F9 and F10 keys.

Key fell off

Normally, the solution is to replace the keyboard, they run about $20 on ebay and takes about 15 minutes to change.
