Question about Vacuums
If it's an upright, the suction occurs at the base, where the rollers are. Can you explain in more detail what you are having a problem with?

take off the bottom like you are replacing the belt. You will find a little metal clip that controls the upright lock. It may be lose or broken.

Brushroll not spinning

I have a Eureka Bagless Optima 431 Lightweight Upright that is not working. I took it apart to clean the brushroll and have tried to put it back together several times, but the brushroll will not spin anymore. Maybe I'm putting the belt in the wrong spot? Where can I find a diagram or something?
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. Eureka 431A Optima Bagless Upright Vacuum. You have only 2 choices, the belt is either side driven belt or the belt is a center driven belt and the brushroll has one side that is for the belt and the side driven brushroll and the motor pulley must be in line in order to work properly, you may want to check the bearing holders, some vacs will mark the ends with words like NEW or USED and both have to be identical in order to fit right. Once you have the brushroll out it should spin if you set it on it’s side and if that happens you are OK, then watch the ends of the brushroll. Align the end with the motor pulley, B4 install the belt place the belt on the pulley side and install the brushroll. Then once the brushroll is in and spins properly, and then you can use a belt puller and stretch the belt onto the motor pulley and then track it in a straight line. Hi have you checked underneath to see if the belt has snapped, you will find it either side of the brush, if so you can obtain a replacement at most retails stores but take the model number and make with you, hope this helps

The handle pedal is snapped in to the base, where it pivots.
The pedal needs to be pried away fron the base, exposing the pivot pin to release it for removal. On your model, you will likelly have to remove the lower handle from the base (where it pivots) to get room to release and replace the pedal.
