You can try this test, but I doubt it will work anyway. Play some music and turn up the volume HIGH. If you can hear a faint single the pre-amp is working. So that implies a power amp fault. However if "dual" means pre-amp and power, which I think it does, then the test will be useless. Personally I would whip out the STK4162. You can get one at Grandata for just £5.50 plus P&P, link to it below.

Check its sled motor. It is the motor that helps to spin the disc inside. If disc do not spin inside, check the voltage at the terminals of this motor. If it is alright, and comes near to 5VDC, the sled motor is damaged and have to be replaced. OK.
