My computer is locked. ctrl/alt/delete does nothing

WOW, how'd you do that?

That sounds like a Bios or Hard Drive Lock. How long have you had this computer? Did it work before?

You need to press the Power Button to start it and see what key it says to hit to get into the Bios or System Setup. Once you are there you need to look at the Passwords to see which password it is asking for (Bios or Hard Drive). After we know that, then we might can find a solution. Report back to us.

I need the password for my emachine notebook, when i turn it on , it comes up toshiba mk1655gsx harddisk lock enter password ????

The hard drive password is only set by two people. Yourself or the maker of the laptop.
You are not able to access the drive without the password, there are backdoor passwords on the Internet that claim to allow you access in the event that you forget the password but the chances that these passwords work is slim to none. The options that are avaliable to you at the moment:
1. Remember the password if you set it.
2. Contact the laptop maker and the hard drive maker to ask for master passwords. I have never heard of this being succesful.
3. Throw the drive away and start fresh from scratch.
4. Contact a data recovery specialist which at last quote charge $1500.00 per 60GB of space and they charge you for the entire hard drive space.
Scientific terminology

the hard drive password is stored in an area of the hard drive called the "host protected area" not accessible by conventional
means and near possible by the average user as the "hpa" has sent signals to the drive telling it not to start the drive motor or to power on the read write heads that access the drive. Hence the reason why if you plug the drive into another computer the drive won't show up or be recognised.
To access and read what the password is you need software that can send signals to and from the "hpa", a binary/ hexadecimal editor/ decipher and a good couple of hours to waste to do this.
I have been working on this for 1 year now I am half way if you have any questions or don't understand the above 0424665428 I am in Brisbane.

Need to unlock gateway 7330GZ hdd

So who put the password on it? 99% of the time if there is a Hard Drive Password and the person in possession of the laptop don't know the password, the laptop is stolen. The original owner put the password lock on the hard drive to keep thieves from getting to sensitive data. The owner could have set the password remotely once the laptop was stolen. Your system is toast. The only remedy is to get the original owner to remove the password.

Purchased on Ebay an Asus which has a locked HD. I have booted it to USB stick with Knoppix. It has a 160Gb locked Western Digital drive. Is this a bios problem? Is it a HD firm ware problem. I'm not...

You have to erase the motherboard memory. However this is extremely difficult. Even if you esase the cmos memory and put in a whole new hard drive, the lock may still be there. Your best bet is to contact the seller to see if they will give you the password. If they dont want to help you then you should leave a negative feedback on their account.

Cant seem to remove the "write protection" error off my store and go micro flash

It has password protection. Open My Computer on your PC, insert the USB drive, open the password file, enter your password, then select the option to remove password protection from the USB drive. If this does not work, contact Verbatim for a solution, these USB flash drives have lifetime warranties.

The Disk is write protected

  • Check for a write-protection switch. This switch, when engaged, will lock the contents of the flash drive and is a very common security feature. It is generally located on the side of the flash drive, and has an "enabled" or "on" position, and an "off" position. Slide this into the "off" position.
  • Override password security. If your flash drive has password security, but you have forgotten the code, you can try to override the security feature by going to the Start menu and selecting "Run." A dialogue box will pop up, into which you should type in the path to the file on the USB drive you want to access. Note: This only works on USB drives with very simple security. If the security is complex, this will not wor
  • 3Format the flash drive. If nothing else works, you can always format your USB flash drive, which will set all your write protections back to default. From there, you can customize them however you want, but all your data will be lost. To format the flash drive, go to the My Computer, right-click your drive and select "Format." A status bar will pop up. Once the status bar disappears, you can change the write-protection settings on your flash drive without incident.

How can i create a password for an single drive of my system, for example i wanna lock my D drive , How can i lock..?

You can tell windows to disallow access to the drive, but all anyone has to do is 're-allow' access, or even put it on a non-windows computer that understands windows drives, and your lock is gone.

If you really want security, check out the free 'TrueCrypt' program at:

That will allow you to lock the drive, and even have the drive completely hidden until you enter the passphrase.

Have an ADATA PD16 - 16 GB Flash Drive

Formatting this device makes it so that it is impossible to render the driver for it. You need a new flash drive. The reason for this is that the space on the drive doesn't recognize itself to be writeable. To empty files you must delete them, not format the entire drive.
