Either the machine needs a drop of oil or you have problems with your foot control, the very worst scenario which is unlikely is the motor has gone faulty

SOURCE: why is the motor of my sears kenmore sewing

it could be different things
have you checked to make sure the plug is correctly in the machine
one time I was sewing on my necchi electronic machine & it for some reason was going slow like you mentioned & so I started checking different thing & found the cord to the foot pedal was laying in side the foot pedal & it couldn't go any faster untill I moved the cord out of the way
it could also be the motor
& also the power cord & foot pedal
it's possible it needs to be serviced since it's been sitting up so long & since it's sewing at a snails pace

Why is my machine suddenly so slow? Did I somehow key in instructions to go about 20% pace? I inherited this machine so I don't fully understand it

What make/model machine is it?

If it's an older mechanical machine, it is probably seizing due to lack of oiling and cleaning. The old oil turns to varnish and causes the parts to stick.

Wheel on right side that controls the needle up and down is very tight...

My lily. 540 suddenly started to continue to sew after I released the foot control. It runs at a very slow pace, and I have to continue to step on the control to get it to stop.

Sounds like a foot control switch problem. Could be something as simple as a bit of something in your pedal causing it to not come up all the way, or a weak spring. If not this replacing the foot control would be needed.

Mega quilter binds thread under fabric

If you have to manually set the tension on your bobbin, your tension may be too loose or too tight. When my bobbin is full of thread the tension has to be stronger than when it is almost empty. So tight when it's full and loose when it's nearly empty. I hope this helps. If this doesn't work try using a air can to blow out the dust in your bobbin casing and make sure the bobbin doesn't have any burs. It needs to be wound smoothly. Also check for thread hangups in the bobbin casing area. Also you may want to completely re-thread your machine.

Why is the motor of my sears kenmore sewing machine model 385.12714 running really slow? The machine has not been used for at least a year or two. We oiled it. It is sewing, but at a snail's pace.

Check the speed control button on the front of the machine. It could have gotten slid all the way over to "turtle."

Sews and then slows down. will not thread bobbin

make sure you are running you thread around the bobbin to get it started start slow when winding, is there something under your sewing foot(on the floor) when you are sewing if it's slowing down sounds like something may be holding it back, only other thing that may cause something would be internally if not the feed dogs. let me know hope this helps amy
