Most computers/PC's do not come with a microphone. You have to buy a stand alone mic or headset with mic and then plug it into the microphone jack on the front or back of your comptuer.

First : you need to check if the midi in works with another computer or another software to know if you have a physical problem (some parts does not work) or installing & programmation problem
1- if the problem if physical : you need to ask someone to repair it if possible
2- if the problem is not physical , you need to reinstall your interface (or looking for the latest driver version for your system) or to check if your computer's system misses some files (like dll files or other system files)
3- check your microphone or your XLR wire
Good Luck

Where is my physical micropone in a dell 8400? speaker

Rolf,
There is no physical mic on the system. You will need to purchase a mic and plug into the port on the back of the desktop in the pink port.
This jack is used to attach a standard personal computer microphone. Connect the audio cable from the microphone to the microphone jack.

Thank You,

I just bought a CAD gxl2200sp microphone and I plugged it into the phantom power converter and then into my computer and it doesn't pick up any audio. What am I doing wrong?

The usual procedure when a mic is not working - check that the phantom power (+48V) is working, then try another cable.

If the mic is out of warranty and you're low on bucks, you might have to fix it. Unscrew the base, carefully holding the body sleeve up against the screen. Then carefully slide off the body to expose the PC boards. Check the boards and wires for cracked copper film and bad solder joints. Two tiny Philips screws will allow you to remove the REAR board for full inspection of both. If all is good physically, start checking components with a multimeter. (if you don't know how, StartPage it.) The circuit is similar to the one below, EXCEPT there is a low cut switch on the CAD 2200. If you find a bad component, most of them are pretty cheap to replace.

On the microphone setup page, it keeps on asking me to say 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and I made sure my audio settings were correct in my control panel. i don't know why it's not working!

Check to make sure that you have connected the microphone to a microphone port. Headphone ports are identical to microphone ports physically, however they will not accept audio input. If you have verified that the microphone is connected to a microphone jack and the device still does not work, you may be using an old or low quality microphone which is not good enough to detect your voice. You might need to buy a higher quality microphone. If this is not the case, your microphone may be broken. You can check this by using a recording program like audacity (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/) to do a test recording and make sure that the microphone is actually recording. If none of the above seem to be the issue, then make sure you are speaking loudly and clearly. Voice recognition software is not always good at picking up your voice and you may need to enunciate your speech more, especially if English is not your first language or you have an accent. Good luck!

1/ I switched computers, downloaded the program on the new, and now I can't get a voice. The microphone is on, volume is on. 2./ somehow 4 people with off color ads are on my messenger list and I can't...

I assume you're troubleshooting a problem with your microphone, since you mentioned that.

1. Verify all physical connections are all the way in. Speakers and microphone sometimes stop before they are all the way in.

2. Verify that you have sound (play music or any sound file). If Windows Media Player gives you an error, google it (use caution here). If there is no sound and no error message, reinstall driver for audio (from Mfg website or "Driver" CD that may have come with your computer).

3. Use Control Panel, Sound, to check for settings that mute sound (check boxes). If you change anything document it carefully beforehand and test frequently, as there are many settings. If you change something and it does not fix the problem, it is a good idea to change it back right away--unless it's obviously wrong (mute checked).

3. If all else fails, try the illogical solution that sometimes works for me: Remove the microphone plug from the back of the PC (plug and port are usually pink). Plug it into the wrong hole (blue or green), then plug it in where it belongs. Every 8 years I find a microphone that is not fixed by any of the usual (logical) fixes. And this has worked twice for me.

Computers, you can't live with em, and you can't live without em!

Hope this helps. Please rate the answer. It's my first post!

Please also seperate two questions from now on. It's impossible to tell which one you are still trying to solve. I know nothing about deleting people.

I have an AKG C3000B microphone. It got very quiet.

How to repair a C3000B with low output.

I had the same problem, and was able to repair it myself. i've seen several other posts with the same description, and if you can use a soldering iron, you're golden. I just now repaired mine, and it took less than 10 minutes. One of the leads going from the PCB board to the capsule was broken loose at the solder joint. Mine has been dropped, so no surprise. Somehow, if you boost the signal enough, you still get sound, where I would have expected silence.

You need a star bit set (I have a little mult-mini screwdriver set that has them stored in the handle from home depot.) There are two silver screws in the bottom lip. Remove these and the whole screen housing slides off. Even better, the capsule assembly slides out too. There are two prongs that plug into a harness when inserted.

There are two black wires from said prongs to capsule leads. See if one is loose. If so, solder that ***** back on and its as good as new, and hot signal.

You also need small plyers, someting to strip the small. I know this is a late post, but maybe it will elp somone. Good luck.

All of a sudden my microphone stopped working on notebook

try plugging a mic in the mic hole to see if it works , that would eliminate the driver or the sound card issue.

if you dont have a mic you can use a diskman headset, and speak in to the ear part
wont be as loud but still good to test

Sounds like a physical problem with your input jack. Try plugging it into another microphone port. Most computers have at least two, one in back and one in front.

How do i turn off my microphone for the acer aspire 5920 series

The short answer is you probably don't, unless your laptop has a BIOS setting for it, which is unlikely.

I had a major privacy conflict with IBM/ Lenovo over that, bur there may be a work around:

1) Using the windows and/or audio card mixer program, e.g. windows volume control, find the microphone slide control and set it to minimum. Also enable the microphone mute button if there is one.

This is not 100%, but it will help, keeping in mind that rogue software can access and over-ride this setting at will.

2) Next, see if you're laptop has an external microphone jack. If it does, plug a short-circuited microphone plug into it. Make sure that the plug's short circuit wire is well soldered for best results. This should disable the internal microphone, and replace it with a dud. Be careful you don't stress and break the jack when handling the PC.

This will be quite effective, but again not a 100%, due to the huge dynamic range of modern audio cards and their ability to recover incredibly weak signals. A 16 bit audio card has a dynamic range of 96 decibels. a 24 bit card= 144 decibels. A 32 bit = 182 db. 1 bit = 6 decibels.

A shorted mic input may offer 100dB attenuation + another 48 db or so from the software volume/mixer control.

3) Finally you may try to totally uninstall the audio driver from windows, or to disable the audio card from BIOS. This will work, but you won't be able to play music either.

4) Another possibility is to physically destroy the internal mike,
look for a pinhole somewhere near your keyboard or display. Plug it up with glue. (Again a partial solution only)

5) There is a real security and privacy issue with laptops, because rogue programs (malware and trojans) can access the internal camera and microphone to spy on you over the internet,
broadband or wi-fi.

Cheers, Martin
