SOURCE: sony receiver sound keeps cutting off and when you

Sounds like it could be a couple things.
Heat creep - unit is getting hot so some onboard component is coming lose. I had this happen with a cable converter! I found if I applied pressure to a certain chip inside of the unit it would work fine... if I did not or if the pressure was a little off it would not tune in channels any more.
Some sort of short could be causing the unit to malfunction.
You could have a bad Capacitor... although the "tapping" thing sorta doesn't fit with this.... when my brothers unit died on him, I opened the case and found the bad Capacitor. You can tell cause the top will be popped out more than what you can see on the other capacitors in the unit. Also you can tell if there is a brown looking colour on the top of the capacitor as well. Replacing my brothers blown capacitor solved the problem and it has been going strong for 2-3 now.

Sony GX800ES protector

Make sure none of the speaker wires are touching each other. If they are, it will short out the stereo which triggers protection mode and cuts out all of the sound.

Sounds like a bad speaker, or a speaker that is being over-driven.

The receiver keeps cutting out. i dont know why its cutting out everytime i turn it on. all it says on the face of the receiver is lpcm 48... Help?

I had this same problem with my Onkyo sr701, and it turned out to be a twisted kink in the speaker wire. Run a sound check to each speaker separately (from your receiver menu) and turn each one up until the receiver shuts off. Check the wire to the speaker that caused it to shut off and make sure the +- ends are not touching each other at either end, and that there are no twists or kinks along the way.

Speakers pop and rear speakers cut out of surround sound

Hi,
your problem is a bad solder connection of the relay linked to the lautspeaker sockets. I had the same problem and googled for the solution. Since I resoldered the pins everything is fine. That problem is well known and happens to a lot of Sony receivers.

I can send you a link with a detailed how-to-do solution with pictures, however it's written in german language. But you can use some online translators.

Here is the link: http://www.bmw-syndikat.de/bmwsyndikatforum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=28280&FORUM_ID=20&CAT_ID=9&Forum_Title=Geplaudere&Topic_Title=Problem+Sony+STR-DE445

Sound cuts out- cable tv

I had the same problem when I installed the new HD Comcast cable box (DCH3200), initially with my CRT through RF, then with my HDTV through HDMI. Problem solved when I replaced the box with the Comcast RNG110 I got from my local Comcast. It is a neat miniaturized box and it works extremely well on HD. There is no power switch on the box so before activation do not forget to put it on with the remote (cable, power, the green light will come on).
