Open Question

I recently bought a xerox xes synergix scan system large format scanner (product identifier code: YWC-1). I have no idea how to get it up and running. Xerox tech support had no one familiar with this product as it is about 15 years old. I could not find much help through google either only that I may need aXcess and/or synergix diagnostic software of which I can not get aXcess to work or find the synergix diagnostics. If anyone has any info or advice PLEASE HELP ME! Thank you

You will need to use what came with your machine.
The note from Xerox states this.

NOTE: You will need the Fiery Restore / Update Server Software CD and the User Documentation v2.0 CD that came with your EX12 v2.0 Software

And here is the loading process

  1. Visually check to make sure the Fiery LCD is at the Idle screen before you proceed. This will make sure the Fiery is not in use.
  2. Insert the Fiery Restore / Update Server Software CD into the Fiery EX12.
  3. Press [Menu] button on the Fiery Server.
  4. Press the [Down arrow] button.
  5. Press the [Shut Down] button.
  6. Press the [Reboot System] button. The message 'Rebooting System' will display and disappear after a few moments. The Fiery Server will reboot and complete internal testing. The Restore / Update CD menu will be displayed.

    NOTE: Ignore the message 'It's now safe to power off the system'.

  7. Press the [Up arrow] or [Down arrow] button to scroll to 'Restore System' so this is highlighted. Press the [OK] button. The 'All data will be Deleted. Continue?' message will be displayed.
  8. Press the [Up arrow] or [Down arrow] button to scroll to 'Yes' so this is highlighted. Press the [OK] button. The 'Restoring System...' message will be displayed.

    NOTE: The System Restore will take approximately 7 minutes, during this time the message 'Restoring System...' will continue to be displayed.

  9. Press the [OK] button when the 'Restore Complete!' message is displayed.
  10. Press the [Up arrow] or [Down arrow] button to scroll to 'Exit' so this is highlighted. Press the [OK] button.
  11. Remove Fiery Restore / Update Server Software CD from the EX12.
  12. Power OFF the Fiery Server. The power switch is located on the rear of the server, above the power cord.

    NOTE: Wait 10 seconds before powering ON.

  13. Power ON the Fiery Server. The Fiery Server will boot and complete a self-test.
  14. The EX12 will prompt you to insert the User Documentation CD. Insert the CD and the Fiery will continue with the process. When the process is complete, the Fiery LCD will display the message 'Please remove CD'.
  15. Remove the User Documentation CD
  16. Power OFF the Fiery Server. The power switch is located on the rear of the server, above the power cord.

    NOTE: Wait 10 seconds before powering ON.

  17. Power ON the Fiery Server. The Fiery Server will boot and complete a self-test.
  18. Using the Configuration Report as reference, re-enter the network settings on the EX12.
  19. Install any required patches, as needed. Refer to the Updated Information section on the Configuration Report.
  20. If needed, restore any data that you previously archived. See the Related Items.

In menus you browse to the service tab, then serivice diagnostics. Go to NVRAM reset and perform the NVM reset.
Before you do that, print out a configuration page if you want to rememebr the network settings. It will set the IP address back to default also.

There is an error in the in the server password or a template setting.
Here is the documentation. Pretty straight forward

Login to the Server was not possible during Scan to Server file transfer.
arrwup.gifInitial Action Refer to BSD 16.1.
Power OFF/ON
arrwup.gif Procedure Set the login name and password in the destination server.
Set the attributes of the Job Template file correctly.
From a client PC, set the same account as the above as a resource using CW.

To scan a document to file (Scan to File), the WorkCentre must be directly connected to the workstation using a USB or parallel connection. Scan to File is not supported over an Ethernet connection.

Hello Steffen, We have a 8830 scanner Synergix.


Hey Panos,

What are you trying to feed a paper roll or single sheets or are you telling me you cant feed the original to be scanned? Can you copy or print internal status pages from your Xerox?

But it sounds like thats not the problem as it isnt hooked up and your lappy as it dont have a serial port you only have USB...... but this is a network printer.... do you have a network or it is just a stand alone lappy?


So I guess.. stand alone lappy to Xerox.... you will need to network it... and if it just a stand alone lappy ie no network then you will need a non standard network cable called a crossover cable to go from scanner to lappy but you will also need to set up a network with them manually asigning IP's of each to be on the same network, then hooking with a crossover (normally red never blue) network cable, and you will also need the software installed on this lappy no matter which way we go

Spose you could try a serial to usb adaptor but they will have issues propally when trying to use that sort of interface on scanning, normally one has the print server that is an option on your scanner to interface with the likes of a laapy, so I dont think it would workor a good idea to go with an adaptor

Well come back with some more info because the more info you can give me about your problem the better i can understand it.. cheers

Xerox Synergix A0 Scanner setup


As far as I know you need either the Xerox Accxes controller (like a dedicated PC) or a wide-format printer with the built-in Accxes controller, like the Xerox 8825 model. The 8825 has the firewire input and communicates just fine with the YWC-1.

Drivers for copier and scanner xerox 8830


Hi
You can download 8830 drivers from http://www.xerox.com/digital-printing/large-format-printers/enus.html
you need to check the type of controller that is fitted to printer.
Look on the back at box where connections are terminated.
label should have (F5Y or CNG - N5T - HFT and others select which is fitted and operating system, other support documents are also found here.

Xerox Documate 152 - Scan quality is now V.BAD!


I would go to Xerox.com and look up their knowledge base. Here is a copy of data from their site related to this problem:

Symptom: Scanned images have poor image quality, are fuzzy, unclear, or hard to read.
Cause: There are several things that can lead to poor image quality including the scan settings, dirt on the scanner, and driver problems. Solution: Note: If you scan as a PDF file and your scans look fuzzy when viewed in PaperPort, try right clicking on the file and selecting "Open" to open them in Adobe Reader. If they display fine in Adobe Reader then there is nothing wrong with the scans, it is simply that they are not being displayed well in PaperPort.

The following solutions can help resolve poor scan quality.

Solution 1 - Adjust the scan settings

Try increasing the resolution of your scan. 300 dpi to 400 dpi should be clear for most images
  • If you are scanning in Black and White, try Grayscale or Color. Some images will not display correctly in Black and White
  • You can also try adjusting the brightness and contrast
  • Note: For information on adjusting your scan settings, refer to the user guide for your scanner
Solution 2 - Clean and Calibrate the scanner

Note: Calibration only applies to sheetfed scanners.

I need a scanner that will scan 10X14 pictures


Hi,
I found some scanners for you listed below but,
You can also scan large pictures in sections, and then use a program like STITCHES. Basically you scan it in quarter sections and then create a working board in your photo program and then you copy and paste each section into that board and line up the edges.
This is what most people do rather than buy a very expensive large format scanner.

Some large companies also have large scanners for maps etc. If you know someone who works for a very large company or one that does surveying etc. They may do this favor for you.
Though copy stores may have the size you need, copywrite issues will be asked about.
