The problem me and apparently other owners of the toshiba 46ux600u is a desire to hookup additional speakers (external of course) to produce a fill the room audio experience. Since I started researching a solution for my self I've learned several things to either add more variabableson this. toshiba states in manual asI understand it is that (1) If your using HDMI w/the Audio out port (these can be found on the back side next to each other

on viewers right(pg.12).This will mute the RCA terminals, last bottom two on side, viewers righ. (2) Using the Digital Optical audio output found bottom center cancels out internal speakers. This is the port toshiba manual states to use for external intertanment center. This amp or reciever may have signal problems if not digital compatible or optical cables are not used .The (3) and final item I came across is the use of USB ports for Audio output and use of a splitter, one USB to "any" USB on source split to 2 RCA males or bare wire which connect to speakers. SO with all this in mind. With my pc iusing the Toshiba as it's monitor. what connection path could I use to add external speakers to operate along side toshiba's audio system

SOURCE: External speaker hook-up possibility

Yes, its absolutely possible. You can connect external speakers from analog output of TV. Even you can use AV receivers available in the market which can be used to amplify OR process the tv sound with latest digital processing techniques, it would be very much pleasant than the sound from tv.

What kind of speakers are you connecting to the TV? The audio amplifier in the TV is only strong enough to drive the internal speakers in the TV. You have to use amplified speakers or route the audio through your sound system

How do I get external speakers to come on?

You can select the option at its sound menu. Get it, and select 'External speakers' which in turn switch off the internal speaker, and bypass the signal to the external speaker. But; the you can't bypass the audio output, but the audio signal output from the back of the TV to any external amplifier or so. If you've any doubt, contact any technician. Gopakumar Gopalan Google

External speaker hook up

If the internal speaker is hooked up, then unplug the set from the wall for 40>, and that will reset the audio processor if it is locked up, also make sure you are getting a audio signal from your signal source.

Volume on tv is locked volume wont go up or down and not even able to put on mute

Go to Menu from remote.
Select "Audio" and confirm "Internal" speakers vs. "External". Internal is the built in speaker sna external is when you are using a surround sound or reciever for audio.
Check this and follow up.

I hooked up my stereo amp to my external speakers that were also still hooked up to my tv. now I don't get any audio from my tv just a high pitch sound. Is this an easy fix?

Hi, I can help. It sounds like the TV internal speakers were turned off so that the only speakers to have sound were the external ones. Go to your menu and find the sound area. There you can tell the TV to send sound to the internal speakers once again and not to external.

No volume

On the back of your set there are 2 switches that tell the tv whether you are using the internal speakers or the external speakers.
Make sure the switches are set to internal so the speakers in the TV receive the sound signals. If they're set to internal maybe the internal speakers are bad. Set the switches to external and hook up external speakers to the speaker terminals on the back of the TV. If neither setup works then it sounds like an output transistor or related parts.

Please check if your internal speakers are busted. Trying out the external speakers are good isolation to the problem thats why, you can pinpoint the problem to be in the audio section.
