The red blinking light is typically the result of a heating issue but can also be caused by both a malfunctioning hard drive or a lose connection. The big problem with this is the $150 price tag that Sony charges to fix the issue. Below is a link with a more detailed description of the issue.
Turn the PS3 off with the main switch on the back.
Turn the PS3 back on into standby (red light on)
While holding the eject button press the power button on the front of the PS3. This should initialize a forced disc eject.
Try removing the game inside your disc. then try removing other external hardware and slots and try again. If problem persists it might be a system problem. Please go to the shp from where you bought it and ask them for a replacement.
the red light will stay on allways and your controller is probably charging is why its flashin if u HAVE to turn it all the way off take out tha games and flip the switch in the back
try this:
it works for slimline PS2. might work for PS3.
1) turn off PS3
2) unplug PS3 and wait a minute or two before plugging back in.
3) turn on PS3
Those blinks [flashes] are fault indication (Error Codes). From the number of blinks occur at one time switch ON, you can get an idea about the faulty circuit section inside it. This will make repair easy. These are called blinking codes. Make sure about the exact number of blinking of the standby/power LED, by switching On & OFF the set, for at least two times. Count it carefully. If you wish to get some details, check the site linked here. It has details about blinking codes, and fault locating procedure, to many popular brand TVs and other devices. http://electro-medical.blogspot.com/ http://homenol.blogspot.com/ http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/
If blinks continue without any pause, the main board is faulty.
Are you trying to turn the PS3 on via bluetooth controller? If so, attempted to turn PS3 on from console itself. Sometimes the controller will get out of sync with the system and not allow for turning on remotely.
I sure wish I could because I have the same problem. I purchased an almost new ps3 from a seller on ebay and all I get is standby then when I try to power it up, I get the blinking red light. Sony wont help because I purchased it from ebay so I am not the original owner. The seller wont help, he swears it didnt have that problem when he shipped it. Ive tried removing the hd, holding down the power button, unplugging it in the back, and nothing helps.
same thing happening, though it sometimes will even load and then turn off 30 seconds later. and give the blinking light
red light blinking, turns off its self everytime i switch it on.
