Feed dog timing

It would be in the Service Manual for your machine. That is a common adjustment that technicians make quite often. It's usually a matter of loosening one or two Allen screws, adjusting to the correct position, and tightening the screws again. Sounds like over time, the screws in your machine have worked themselves loose.

Seems to be out of sync. makes a knocking sound, not catching bobbin thread.

Is the needle in facing the right way? Flat shank to the back.

The knocking sound could be your needle is bent too, have you just had a threading jam up?

I'd remove the needle plate and bobbin and threads, clean everything and oil, put in a new needle, then slowly move the flywheel manually and watch the needle action to see if you can identify where the knocking noise is coming from.

Failing that, I'd say the timing is out, take it to a serviceman. The thread's not locking is usually a good indication of this fault.

That usually is not a do it yourself job, because you have to have the right tools and know how. Only problem is that to get it fixed will cost more than you paid to buy it. You can check in your area.

How do i put the bobbin case back in correctly?

The zigzag setting should not have caused it to jam up unless the tensions were off and the thread was bunching up on the bottomside of the needle plate. If you ever jam or break a needle be sure to replace it with a fresh new needle. A slightly bent needle will cause all kinds of problems.
When putting the bobbin back in make sure you keep a good amount of thread hanging out and manually turn the hand wheel around until the needle make a full rotation. The hook should catch the needle thread and allow you to pull the bobbin thread out through the needle plate.
If you jammed it really good it is possible that the needle and hook timing is out of sync in which case you may need to have it re-timed.
