best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

SOURCE: I plug my Simpletech Signature Mini hard drive in

When you plug the drive in, Windows should recognize it and make it immediately available for your use.

To confirm this, click Start then Computer and it should show up as a device with removable storage. If you click on the Signature drive, you will see the contents of the drive and you can use it just as ou would your "C:" drive.

SOURCE: computer not reading hard drive

Usually a brand new HDD needs to be formatted.
Have you done that?
If not, then you should do as follows:
Right click on My Computer, click on manage.
A new window, called Computer Management. will appear.
Click the option Disk Management from the left pane.
On the right you will see ALL the drives connected to your computer.
Select the one you want top format, right click it and choose FORMAT.
When the process is completed, you'll be able to see and use your new HArd drive.
Hope this helps.

Yes, it is a "plug-and-play" device, and Apple OS X supports such P&P devices.

I cannot open any of my files on my signature mini

If anyone else has been using the hard drive, they may have changed the permission settings or encrypted them.
Another consideration, did you log in as an administrator? Was your "User Account" setting changed from Administrator to "Limited"?

Is the signature mini hard drive formatted to the same file allocation table setting as the OS you're plugged into?

Here is the manual that covers all of the SimpleTech Signature Mini External USB 2.0 Hard Drives. This is a pdf document, so you may need to install Adobe Acrobat Reader if you don't already have it installed.

I am using Mac and I can not change the permission on my hard drive 320 G Signature Mini to write it only lets me read what do I ...

Ahhh, this is a common problem. The only file system that is both Windows and Apple compliant is the FAT32 file system format. You will have to back up everything and reformat to FAT32.

If you use FAT32 you are restricted to on 4GB files... That means no movies, no long recording, nothing :-/

_OR_

You can format the HDD with your Apple computer and have no restrictions. That file format is called Mac OS Extended Journalled. I reccomend this but keep in mind, it is NOT readable with all non-Mac friendly operating systems, especialy Windows :)
