That could be a bad wire in the well or the pump motor has a flat spot...or a spot that if the motor stops there it will not start....also could be that the pump bearings are worn and the motor locks up once in a while...
Bottom line the pump will need to be pulled and probably replaced....

Inside the pump there is a thermal overload switch. Normally the pump will start back up again after it cools off. If not the pump should be replaced. If you are desparate and don't want to buy a new one. You could try taking the pump all apart, find the thermal overload switch and replace it. I have never done that, but I'm sure it could be done. Just make sure to seal the pump good on the body gasket surface. 100 percent silicone should do it. After everything is working, I always use the cheapest latex caulk I can find, and seal the pit cover. Cheap caulk will pull up easy the next time
there is a rag in the pit.
