Question about Yamaha DV-S5450 DVD Player

1 Answer

"BLOCKED" message My DVD player has been working fine for years. I havne't adjusted any of the settings, yet all of a sudden it won't take a DVD. When I attempt to insert one, it spits it back out at me with a BLOCKED message. Even when I take the DVD out, and try to close the drawer empty, it opens up again with the blocked message. I've made sure there are no parental controls set, etc. Unless I manually power-down when the drawer is closed, it won't stay closed, and everything (even air) is BLOCKED. Is there a solution out there for this?

Re: "BLOCKED" message

Solution 1: Most likely there is a foreign mechanical object obstructing the tray mechanism. If, like me, you have kids around every corner then most likely a curious little one has pushed something in to see "just what will happen". With some luck you can solve the problem by opening up the unit (power-off, unplugging first, of course) and doing a visual inspection for what shouldn't be there (pieces of paper, coins, toothpicks, fibres, etc).

Alternative Solution 2: Sometimes what happens is that the tray loading belt slackens over the years (age, humidity, over usage) and fails to respond quickly enough. In the absence of any obvious foreign object(s) this is a likely alternative explanation. Drive-tray electronics (called SERVOS) are programmed to expect timing signals to come within well-defined intervals of time. If this does not happen (such as due to a slack belt), then the condition is registered as an error. Try replacing the belt if solution 1 does not work.

My VHS-to-DVD Burned Disc used to work and now it doesn't

It could be your disc is scratched or DVD+R can't be read in the DVD player. Check for any scratches. Then pop in the disc in to your PC DVD, to see if it's readable.

Vcr won't record

first try a new set of connecting wires these are the usually cheap wires that will give out easily. if that don't work ,its most likly gonna be the tape recorder itself. how old is it.

Suddenly, despite using the power cord, we get a "battery low" message and soon the player stops working. We've been using the DVD player for some time with no issues and this just started...

it is possible that the battery has been reset at a low level so it won't hold the charge. You may need to have it emptyed and then recharge it for the max time or you need to replace the battery.

Suddenly "cannot play this disk" on Sony DVD/CD..every DVD...CD's work!

I have the same problem. I have a 5 year warranty from the company I purchased the unit from. I am not sure if they will replace it or not. I am reluctant to buy another one with this known issue. We have enjoyed the unit for nearly 3 years with no issues.

Blocked error message

I would imagine it's eitehr a Region problem or a parental level problem. Ensure the region DVD matches the Region of your DVD player. Also check the parental rating level within the DVD player is not active or set to 18.
