Problem for NetGear DG834 Router

Problem install router all connected except MSN live messenger. Found problem was in my firmware. Downloaded firmware dg836gt_1_02_09.img to correct this problem. Now can not get the frimware installed inside the router. What do I need to do to make this work. With current version of firmware router is very slow in connecting and disconnects all the time. Know this is a known problem with this router and they say to install this frimware version inside to correct this problem. Please help how do or can I install this version of firmware to correct my problem

OK. First, that dg836gt_1_02_09.img file does not seem to be a firmware file. You need to get a .zip file or a .bin file to upgrade the firmware. Check Netgear's website for the current firmware. If it is a .zip file, then you need to extract the .bin file from the .zip file with winzip software. Then, log into your router with Internet Explorer by typing it the routers IP address in the address bar like this http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx. Enter user name and password. Look for a tab that states software update. Browse for the .bin file you downloaded or extracted from the .zip and click update.
