I have a vitamix 5000 unit. Blade assy makes noice ; is loose. Where can I buy the set of bearings for the blade assembly?

You will need to source them from a bearing supply company as Vitamix only supply the bearings as a complete unit with the blade assembled. Once you have the bearings out take the sample with you to the bearing supply company for correct identification.

What is the procedure of putting a new blade in a shopsmith scroll saw?

for more info please see the owners manual here: http://www.shopsmith.com/ownersite/manuals/845539.pdf and view page 31 -32

  1. Slide the new blade into position, working it up through the table slot, around the guard, and onto the wheels, as seen in Fig. B-26. The teeth must be pointing down and toward the front of the Bandsaw (and toward you). Position the blade approximately in the center of the rubber tires and in between the guide blocks.
  2. Check the tension scale alignment. With the blade slack on the wheels, the red indicator bar should be parallel to the left edge of the tension scale. If this is not the case, follow the alignment procedure described in Alignment section. Fig. B-26 Fig. B-27
  3. Tension the blade, turning the blade tensioning screw clockwise, as demonstrated in Fig. B-27. Notice that as you turn this screw, the red indicator bar moves, because it is actually the flat spring that tensions the blade. The blade tension is properly set when the edge of the bar disappears behind the scale at the marking for the blade width you're using. On a few operations, such as sawing thick stock with a thin blade, it may be necessary to increase the blade tension slightly beyond the normal setting. However, this increased tension will shorten the life of your blade. Always remember to reset the tension screw when you no longer need extra tension
  4. After you've spun the blade several times by hand, it should be centered on the three roller bearings, indicated in Figs. B-29 and B-30. The back of the blade should rest against the auto-track roller bearing and the lower blade guide roller bearing, and it should be no more than 1/64" away from the upper blade guide roller bearing. If the blade is not properly positioned on the bearings, follow the procedure described in "Adjusting Roller Bearings" in the Alignment section.

The blade is wobbling on my Fleetwood meat slicer EF12 Slices look like waves.

check that the problem is not from the way the blade is mounted on the shaft
any thing between the blade and the backing hub of the shaft will make the blade wobble so check for burrs , bad fitting parts or the like at the blade center
new bearings , shaft and hub are new but is the hub on the shaft straight

Can you repack the blade bearing on Vitamix Blenders?

On the Vitamix blender models we have here in NZ it is not possible to repack the bearings, you just purchase a new blade assembly complete with bearings and the driving clutch.

My blades are not cutting straight. I have tried new blades, many adjustments and different tensions to no avail. Could it be the bearing behind the blade? Help!

Believe it or not, your little saw will cut a pencil line in half.Take the guides and the bearings out of the way of the blade, turn it by hand till the blade rides in the center of the tire. Make sure it isn't touching any guides. Then tighten up the blade till it twangs. Then bring in the bearings and the guides, just ouch the bearings, do not push the blade at all. The guides should be just behind the teeth and almost touching the blade. This should work perfectly. If it doesn't, then you have something wrong, like a bearing gone out on one of the wheels, or the guide bearings have notches in them. Or the guides are not close enough. You can make guides out of anything, wood, plastic, brass, dowels, anything to guide the blade and stop it from twisting. Remember the blade doesn't move, the work does. Hope this helps.

The blade falls off the bearings/guides

The blade is suppose to ride on the face of the bearing not the profile side. If you are looking at the bearing on a table flat with the hole in the middle, this would be the face. The blade makes slight contact with this bearing to back it up as it goes by. In other words the blade is not suppose to travel around the bearing as it spins. It is suppose to travel across the bearing. Take a look at the picture I drew below. Also review the instructions for the guide setup. You can view them online at : http://www.dewaltservicenet.com/documents/English/Instruction%20Manual/Delta/A27894,28-206%2028-276.pdf Page 19 is the page with the guide setup.

BLADE DRIVE BELT ADJUSTMENT

Well, most riding mowers have a "pully idler", meaning once you have the belt on there (and it is the RIGHT size), the idler automatically gives the belt tension when you engage it (in fact, the idler pully is what IS engaged when you engage the belly mower).

Couple things to check (super simple):

The Belt. Look to see if she is wore smooth out.
Sometimes....they WILL stretch on you, instead of busting/coming apart, and give you noise (when she is engaged, but wore out enough to flop around a little)

The Deck Blade Bearings. Straight away, that is what it sounds like, or bent blades.

Check your Blade Bearings (super simple):
1. Pick up your deck to the highest high setting (mower off, just sitting).
2. Reach under, and grab your mower blade (do this for both sides), and TILT your blade UP (meaning, don't LIFT the blade straight up).
Seriously, jiggle it at a TILT. If you feel some slack in the bearing, the bearing IS shot. Straight up and down is most of the time OK, IF it is VERY little play on your blade bearings. As you do it, look at your belt pulley directly on top, if you see that pully bobbing....

However, if you grab one side of the blade only, then tilt the blade up, and she moves.....
Bearings need replaced, both the upper AND lower bearings PER blade.

They are not hard to replace, and not expensive either! (Though unfortunately, most are "sealed" junk nowadays!)

Bad Bearings show up (make themselves known) in only a few ways: Tons of Noise (grinding, squealing) & Vibration.

Go check them thar Bearings!
