Question about Hotpoint Dryers

Open Question

I have a 22 year old Hotpoint dryer, model DLL2650BHL and it abruptly stopped heating? I see the ingniter turn red but the gas is not igniting and the igniter glow goes out after about 15 seconds. Is it a thermostat that I need? I called a sears tech and he advised I call you to determine if that is in fact what I need and which of the two parts WE4X607 or WE4X608 is it that I should order??? Please advise, Robin

SOURCE: Gas dryer is not heating up

Could be a bad set of burner coils. Does the glow come on for a bit then goes out. And after a bit does same?
Probably bad coils. If you were able to change ignitor, you can do the coils. Unplug first! The coils are the 2 black cylinder shaped devices on burner. They are held on with a bracket that has 2 phillips screws. You can probably take them to your parts house and they can ohm them out for you. Make sure to write down their position before removing them.

The heat is regulated with a Klixon mounted next to the blower housing near the vent pipe so it can judge the temperature of the air coming out of the drum.Right next to it is a melting type fuse. If the dryer runs and gets too hot the fuse will melt. But the dryer will still run. So if the fuse is good(continuity) and the dryer control(cycle) thermostat is also good then you should have power going to the gas valve assembly when the machine is running unless the timer is in the no heat or wrinkle free/cool down mode. When the gas valve assembly is energized the flame sensor a%20flame%20sensor%202.bmp flame sensor mounted outside the burner chamber detects the heat from the ignitor. When the heat is very intense then the sensor shuts down the igniter
a%20igniter.jpg Igniter and that frees up the power so that the coils can be fully energised and open the gas gates. The gas comes out and hits the red hot igniter and you have ignition. It stays on for maybe 2 or 3 minutes or until the control thermostat is satisfied and shuts down power to the gas valve assembly.

Dryer won't heat up

When is the last time you cleaned out the dryer venting? May be a blockage that is causing the no heat problem. Check directly behind the dryer and also outside at the vent cap. If it's a gas dryer, it will not have a heating coil. The gas burner lights with an igniter. Does the igniter glow orange when dryer is first turned on? If not, it may be broken. Look for broken ceramic piece below where it attaches and replace. Do not touch the ceramic piece on the new igniter, as it is very fragile.

1 year old Kenmore dryer tumbles but doesn't heat.

If it is 1 year old, call Kenmore , they will probably fix it as a courtesy call.

If not quote that the machine is not fit for purpose as it should not have gone wrong so quick

22 year old Hotpoint gas dryer. The ignitor coil will not light despite cleaning dust from the area. No ignition, no heat. The coil has quit from time to time but usually will light up with a good cleaning....

Power for ignitor comes down from timer switch and on to the gas valve. Any three of which could cause the problem. To test it correctly, you need to check power through all three components.

Kenmore Elite HE3 Gas Dryer - Heat flame will not ignite

The Igniter glows, then shuts off without igniting gas - the problem is probably with defective coils (black, located on top of the gas valve). It is recommended to replace all coils (usually two or three) if found defective.

Note: Sometimes the whole gas valve may be defective, thus not letting the gas out. However, this problem is not common.
