Question about Olympus D-340R Digital Camera

1 Answer

Camera release button locked

This camera has been great for many years but since I had it in my purse for a few days it is now locked. I can still access the stored pics and batteries are fine but the shutter release won't press down. A whining/whistling sound happens when I open the camera. This is a new, never before heard sound. How can I unlock it. I no longer have the manual. Thanks in advance. I love this camera and am very comfortable with it so please help.

Re: camera release button locked

Sounds like the internal servo motor which drives the optic's assembly has become dissengaged from the gear box that drives the optic's for zooming, or focusing -- with subsequent free-wheeling of servo motor -- spinning at hi-rpm's ??

I have a GE digital camera model x5..was in my purse for a few days and when i turned it on to use it says...write do i clear that? and what does it mean...i cant find my manual to look it...

Look at your memory card. SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the metal contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.

You can download a copy of the manual at

I had my camera in my purse and when i took it out and turn it on. my camera turns on white screen but with a black liquid spot on it. is it fixable? please help my camera is brand new.

Your purse would have happened to be black and the camera on the outside pocket would it?

If so and it was in heat then the LCD screen has super heated, it might come back after a few hours to cool. There is operating temperature ranges listed in the manual extreme heat and cold will just kill most digital point and shoot type cameras, sometimes they come back sometimes not.

I would also take the battery out of it and let it sit for a few hours to cool DON'T put it in a cold place let it come up to room temperature gradually.

Broken camera

I am afraid nothing can be done. you will have to pay for the LCD replacement. You can save on it by getting it changed from a local repairer. And use proper camera cases to keep cameras.

The circular mode control gets stuck and won't turn.

I now have this answer as a cut and paste: Cameras have moving parts and therefore open spaces for dirt to get in and "gunk" things up- that's why they make camera cases- even storing your camera in a Zip Lock sandwich bag, is way better than the bottom of a purse or in the glove compartment. Needs a cleaning, but in this day and age, the only place you might get that done economically is the 3rd world. Sorry

My camera worked fine one day, then it was in my purse. When I went to use it the light was on and the screen said there was a lens error. Everytime I try to turn it on now it makes a grinding noise and...

Hope you purchased an extended warranty. I've had two Cannon's with the dreaded lens error. Probably what happened was that while it was in your purse, somehow the power button got pressed. The camera powered up, tried to extend the lens, then stripped the gears or broke whatever mechanism extends the lens. The sad part is that if it's not under warranty, it probably not worth dumping $100.00 + into fixing it. Too bad, it's a nice 8mp camera with some pretty good reviews. I feel your pain.

Canon sd 800 is is not working

OOh, here we go! Yoiu did right by removing the battery ASAP. The memory card is sealed so itll just dry. This is entirely up to you to do, I assume no liability but your camera is not working anyway so it may be worth a try. You need to flush the camera with distilled water. Yes, the entire camera needs to be rinsed completely of the bathwater with distilled water (no minerals) and then air dried. The entire camera will get immersed in the distilled water and then air dried over about a week, put it on a cookie sheet by lightbulb of a lamp for some warmth so the draining water doesnt pool and get back in. Then you put it in the fridge for 3 days to really suck the moisture out. Let it air dry for another day and then put the battery back in and cross your fingers. Sounds totally wacky? I looked this up earlier this week for something else and ran across this guys post about cellphones falling into water, toilets, etc and he says he is 9 for 9 in bringing them back to life. He even uses 95% alcohol to speed up the water displacement. Its worth a try as NO warranty covers water damage unless its Circuit City ESP, and that policy was over 10 years ago.

Thanks for posting this article as I had no idea of the cause and was suspecting a firmware/software fault. I had the same problem a few days ago. As my camera was out of warranty and the advice from a salesperson in a well known chain of camera shops was to buy a new camera as the repairs would be as expensive, I decided to try and fix it myself. My, somewhat brutal, solution was to use a very thin needle to get around the side of the button and lever it back up again. I did this around the circumference so the button was level again. Since then it has been OK.
