Question about Vizio XVT472SV 47 in. HD-Ready LCD TV

Open Question

Vizio XVT472SV: Had a member previously helping me diagnose the problem whether it was the Power Supply or Mainboard. Pretty certain now that problem is in the Mainboard. But here's my problem. i got this unit -dead- as is, so don't know if there are other problems in it. i hate to shell out $100 bucks for a mainboard only to find other problems. i have several years in electronics and have test equipment. If I could locate a schematic for it, i could trace it down to the component and repair it myself instead of swapping it out with an expensive board. Any suggestions? Thanks!

SOURCE: vizio sv320xvt mainboard not sending +5 to t-con

The missing +5 seems to me to be a real clue--try to follow it back to mainboard etc---it can be a open or just a processor is not switching it on---impossible to really get a component schematic with voltages etc as they do not want to sell and do not sell discrete parts--if you find it is there Google the internet for that board--seen some on ebay from dropped or junked sets and others elsewhere.

I do not like "replace the board either" but in some cases (which is what the maker wants it is the way the repair work is done now.

over 30 years here in experience from tube type sets to current junk.

SOURCE: Relay clicks when applying power. Yellow light

Amber light on means standby voltage is high. IF amber light does not go white when power button is pushed the its one of two things.
A. No power on command from main board. Usually labeled PS-On. Should go high from 3.3v or maybe 5volts. If not present Main is defective.

B. If the ps-on line is going high then your problem is a defective power supply.

I have a Vizio model# E241-A1-A1 with no power.Replaced the power supply board, still no power. Can you help.

Hi Clifford,
Why did you replace the power board? No power in your tv may result due to some other reasons also. Diagnosing a fault in any TV needs a certain amount of knowledge and expertise. Without that you may succeed at times, not always. By the way, do you get red led on plug in?

Vizio sv421xvt issues

It sounds like a main board issue but could be a power supply issue. I will tell you from my experience with Vizio TV's, main boards are more likely to fail than power supplies. But to be sure, you will want to either get a diagnoses or if you're handy do a little troubleshooting. The power supply and the main board are not cheap so you will certainly want to be sure before spending any money.

Vizio XVT472SV will not power on. The orange standby light lights up. Nothing else.

I see so many here with no sound/nopicture issues:

1. IF sound main fuse/s are good.
2. If no power or standby check main fuse, standby power supply and any signsof damage you can see---burnt parts etc.
3. almost all these sets the troubleshooting involves checking voltages on the main power board to narrow down theproblem.
4. Be safe and if you do not know what you are doing don't open the set.

Answers to issues:

1. RE:fuses---if a blown fuse is found get a good replacement(not the genericones like Radio Shack). Many fuses are special even aside from amperage--Don'tput a higher rated amperage fuse in the set for any reason.

2. RE: power supply in set: if total dead aside from main fuse the set uses astandby power supply that runs 7/24 and a main supply (some are combined andsome not.

Here aside from checking fuses you want to examine all the filter caps on thepower/standby to see if any are puffed up or buldged up in some fashion--Iattach a photo of a good one---top should be silver metal and PERFECTLY flatand have no brown material coming out on top or bottom.

What happens in the standby area is they use caps with too low a voltage rating(saves money) which causes them to fail in a year or two---the standby runs7/24 and the heat dries out the caps and they fail.

3. Trouble shooting consists of the above and then at some point you have to buyand try a board to see if it fixes it or not.

4. Safety first--no TV set is worth getting injured or even killed over.If set is opened at least look for puffed up and bad caps like in thisphoto.5_3_2012_10_18_35_pm.jpg

I have a vizio vp3222 in plasma tv. My husband would like to repair it but he/we don't see anything wrong when we open it. It turns on and then immediately off. We need a diagram as to what is what and...

Most likely, it has a failing power supply.

My experience is that the Vizio support people can provide the correct part number for a replacement power supply, and the parts they sell have been very reasonably priced in comparison to other online sources.

Once you call them and they help diagnose the problem, you can order the part. With that part in hand, identifying it in the TV is easy, and it's just a matter of installing it.

Pretty easy job, actually.

TV will not turn on - yellow power light is on.

If the led light is on you only need to replace the mainboard.
and yes you can do it yourself, its pretty easy just order a new mainboard, open the TV and replace the mainboard, it is as easy as it sounds.
