Question about Kenmore Ovens

1 Answer

My room mate left a silicon baking sheet in the oven and turned on the self clean. once he realized what he had done we turned off the self clean and waited for the oven to cool off enough for the door lock to turn off. when i opened it the silicon was basically ash and the entire oven was coated with a white foam and it released fumes that burned my eyes and made my throat burn and quickly spread through the house. i closed the oven and ran outside because i couldnt breathe, i then held my breath and opened the oven again and got what i could of the silicon sheet out, most of it just fell apart. what is that white foam coating the oven and is it toxic?

Silicone ash is not toxic, although it will irritate the lungs if inhaled. It should be safe to just clean your oven and use it.

Testimonial: "thank you, i turned the self clean back on but my main concern is what that white foam coating the inside of the oven was and why it burned my eyes and throat so bad. i figured the foam was from the oven cleaning its self and I tried searching the web for an answer but none of the answers said anything about a self cleaning oven using anything but heat to clean its self."

im guessing the foam you see is actually a layer of silicone particles..you should clean it before you turn on the self clean again. wear gloves and a dust mask.

SOURCE: door won't open after self-cleaning cycle is complete

Turns out that the latch is attached to a plastic piece (made by the manufacturer) and the spring melted! To boot, the fuse in the back which aids in heating the oven went out also. Repair man said this was typical after several uses in cleaning cycle. He recommended using a gentle steel wool pad with soap built in to gently remove backed on food instead of using cleaning cycle. It is just too hot for too long, and there seems to be a domino effect with things that will go wrong. Nothing like the old fashioned way and a little elbow grease!

My maid left a tupperware container in the oven and I baked a casserole in the self cleaning oven. How do I clean it?

You will need to physically remove as much as possible. A plastic putty knife or similar will work best. Use a hair dryer to gently heat the plastic to make it pliable and easier to remove. The oven will need a thorough cleaning once you have removed as much plastic as you can.

I left silicone guard on grates and put on self cleaning. My oven is now filled with a white powder.

Thank you for your inquiry, Cheryl!

I understand that you left the silicone guard on the grates and turned on self-cleaning, now you have white powder inside of your Frigidaire range. This can be removed by using hot water, baking soda, and a non-abrasive cloth. It may take elbow grease in order to remove the white powder. I would recommend not using the oven until you have removed the white powder. I hope this information is helpful for you. -Matt

My oven will not heat up to temperature

It may be the bake element that has gone out. The self clean usually uses the broil element to heat the oven. And most oven will either put 120 volts to the broil element while baking or pulse the broil element while baking. This will cause the oven to get warm but not hot. Check the oven bake element it cound be bad or a wire may have burned off.

What should an oven temp sensor's ohm reading be if it's at room temperature and not faulty? Whirlpool 30" electric range, model number WFE361LVD Bake element and broil element do not heat...

The oven sensor should be between 1000-1200 ohm's at room temperature or roughly 1080 ohm's. I would place the Tech Sheet here but Whirlpool will not allow me to post their manuals or Tech Sheets. You are welcome to the Tech Sheet HERE I hope this helps Thanks, Sea Breeze

Kenmore oven locked door light on but not, won't bake

Check your breakers and also your wiring. Try to turn off the breakers for about 10-15 seconds. Your board inside the control panel may be bad since you are getting mixed signals.

Thermador double oven / Bake wont work /FC code flashed once

I found I have this exact problem. Same bake preheat issue: I can bake if I set broil first. However, the oven doesn't work if I press bake first. The control board has already been replaced a couple times over the years. Is this another replacement??

Left a silicone liner in a self-cleaning oven when I cleaned it

JUST SCRAPE IT OFF IF YOU CAN. OTHERWISE RUN ANOTHER CYCLE AND BURN THE REST OUT OF THERE.

OR JUST USE IT AS LONG AS YOU DONT SMELL ANYTHING BAD.
