Question about Dyson DC11 All Floors Bagless Canister Cyclonic Vacuum

1 Answer

The switch on the turbine head no longer stays in the pushed-in position (hard flooring) and reverts to the carpet setting (brush continues to spin). Is there a way to disassemble the turbine head and repair the switch?

There is obviously a way, but i wouldn't recommend it. Take it to a vacuum repair shop and let a professional do this. It's not a DIY job

SOURCE: DC 07 BRUSH BAR DOES NOT TURN BELT OK

Stand vacuum up and with it plugged in. Rotate knob between carpet and bare floor and back 5 times leaving it on carpet when finished. Rotate vacuum back from upright position and lay vacuum on the floor, rotating it onto its side. Turn vacuum on.

SOURCE: Dyson suddenly hard to push on carpet

I know this sounds silly, but it works. Turn it over and wipe all the black residue off the bottom of it (off the plastic on the bottom that rubs on the carpet as you push and pull it). I thought my husband was out of his mind when he told me that was the solution, but it really works.

That is an indication that the belts are worn, stretched or broken. You simply need to replace the belt. Here is a link to the belt(s) you need and a manual you can view:

SOURCE: turbine head of my Dyson DC08 does not spin

This response is likely too late coming, however for others the problen appears to be the same as the fault with my turbine head which was that the turbine fan had become loose on its spindle. With no pressure on the brushes, friction would allow the fan to turn and drive the brushes via the belt. The faulty part is not available separately however I have repaired mine using araldite glue. Other things to check is for a worn belt. Cheers.

How do I disassemble a Dyson DC26 Carbon Fibre Turbine Head (920545-02)?

Hi Kristian, it's Jack at Dyson.

It's very unlikely that an internal component would have broken after the blockage was removed. Instead, it's worth checking that the plunger is in the correct position. If it's pushed inwards, this will shut off the brush bar, so make sure it's pulled out:

disassemble-dyson-dc26-carbon-fibre-xjczme1b25opy5c2wdvfnwhk-4-0.jpg

If the plunger won't stay in the out position when you switch on your vacuum, this indicates there may still be a blockage within the Turbine head which needs to be cleared.

This should resolve the issue, but if you find it doesn't help, please get in touch so our experts can provide further assistance. Please be aware that dismantling the Turbine head any further than is shown in the User guide can void your Dyson warranty, meaning future replacement parts or repairs could be chargeable.

You can reach our experts by calling the Dyson Customer Helpline on 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).

Our DC41 is impossible to push on carpet. Is there an adjustment to do? Almost like there is too much suction.

See if the following information can help.

CARPETS OR HARD FLOORS

• The brush bar will always default to 'ON' (spinning) each time you switch the

appliance 'ON' and recline it for cleaning.

• The brush bar will not rotate when the appliance is upright.

• To switch the brush bar 'OFF' (e.g. for delicate rugs and hard floors):

- switch the appliance 'ON'

- recline the appliance

- press the brush bar 'ON/OFF' button - the brush bar will stop spinning.

• The brush bar will automatically stop if it becomes obstructed. See 'Brush bar -

clearing obstructions'.

• Before vacuuming your flooring, rugs and carpets, check the manufacturer's

recommended cleaning instructions.

• Some carpets may fuzz if a rotating brush bar is used when vacuuming. If this

happens, we recommend vacuuming in 'hard floor' mode and consulting with

the flooring manufacturer.

• The brush bar on the appliance may damage some carpet types. If you are
unsure, turn 'OFF' the brush bar.

The rotating brushes on my floor setting keep stopping on carpet - even though nothing is clogging it. I have to turn my vacuum off and then back on to get it to start spinning again.

There are two things that cause this.

1) The suction is not good and is not making the turbine head run. Clean the filters/ head and check the hose for blockages

2) The Turbo head has more friction than it should. Remove the brushes from the turbo head and remove all hair etc from the bearings with tweezers.

If it still does not work the the most common problem is the bearing retainer in the turbo head has heated up and come loose. This is a very hard repair I do but for most they should buy a new turbo-head.

I have a dyson DC23 and the turbine head will not turn anymore can anyone help on how to reset. I have cleaned it and there is no blokage its just stopped? Please can someone help

  • Pull the plunger into the ''out'' position for vacuuming carpets.
  • For vacuuming hard floors push the plunger into the ''in'' position to stop the brushbar spinning.
  • Refit the tool onto the machine and test.

The bare floor/carpet switch moves on it's own from bare floor to carpet all the time.

    Hi there,

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC07. When you have your brush control set to 'Carpets', the brushbar should run when the cleaner is reclined into the vacuuming position, and shut off when you stand the cleaner upright. When you have the brush control set to 'Hard floors', it should remain in the off position until you change it manually back to 'Carpets'.

If it won't stay in the 'Hard floors' position during use, it's probably best if you get in touch with us directly so we can determine if there's a fault, and recommend the best course of action. You can call us free on 08002980298 (UK), or 1866MYDYSON (US). We'll look forward to hearing from you.

    Kind regards,

The brushes will not turn but the shampooer will come on

    1) check the filter by the spin indicator (the plastic cover snaps off). Clean if necessary. See if this solves your problem.

    2) take out the spin brush assembly (pull out, there may be tabs you need to push to get it all the way out. Clean out dirt and hair. This may be all you need to do, if not take step 3

    3) turn on the machine with the brush assembly out. Do you see where the square shaft the drives the brushes goes in? If the socket does not spin, you probably have a seized up turbine assembly.

    4) remove the top that covers the motor/turbine (you probably have to take out some screws) The turbine assembly is towards the front. Remove this (again, a couple of screws) and turn it over--there will be some gears. If you can get these gears turning smoothly together you should get the turbine working again. I used a pair of pliers to turn the metal shaft.

Put everything back together and try it out!

MY WIFE BOUGHT THIS FOR ME FOR FATHERS DAY GIFT ABOUT ALMOST 2 YEARS NOW OR SO,BUT I HAVE THIS PROBLEM THAT THE BRUSH DOS'NT SPIN ANYMORE EVERYTIME I PUT THE SWITCH ON FOR BRUSH ON,THE HOSES BRUSH SPIN IS...

This unit uses a turbine assy to turn the brushes. The brushes could have something jamming them. Remove the brush unit, it is held on 2 spring hooks 1 on each side. The brush unit is driven thru a 1/4" square post, only one brush is driven and it drives the next then it drives the next etc. If something is jammed in these gears it will stop the entire brush assy. The turbine assy could be bad, but I would check the brush assy first.

    Hoover model 5906-900 spinscrub

Solution for Hoover SteamVac (F7452-900) brushes not spinning
Uses the turbine model and same solution would be similar. Root cause is simply the main gear attached to turbine becomes stuck. This problem should not happen as often as I see other people also having this problem. Must be a poor design on Hoover’s part. It takes about 30 minutes and a Phillips screw driver and wrench. Pretty easy, just have to remember what screws went where.
Remove brushes, and front suction cover
On the bottom of the machine:
Remove the 4 screws behind brushes which attach the top faceplate
Remove the 2 screws from base in the sunken holes
Remove the two long silver screws from base which connect all the way to turbine assembly
    Stand machine upright
Remove the floor select switch handle
Remove 1 screw near the center beside the intake hole
Remove the 2 screws over the rear wheels
Remove faceplate cover, the front will need to be gently pried over the clear plastic part, be careful about the upright disengaging lever under faceplate, move it under the metal wire
Remove the 2 screws in the front of the turbine assembly
Remove the 2 hoses on either side
Disengage the bar on the floor selector switch
    Pull out the turbine assembly
Remove the 4 screws and 3 clips to separate the assembly
Remove the filter (which is most likely clean since, cleaning this is the manufactures only solution)
Remove the large white gear and with a wrench remove ball bearing
    Remove other large white gear
Note that the metal gear attached to turbine will not move (this was my problem), with a wrench gently grab metal gear and twist free. Spin turbine to make sure it moves freely.
Put everything back together again and you should be good to go.
