Question about Dolphin Maytronics Advantage

Open Question

Diagnostic My Dolphin operates but it will only run for about 5 minutes then stops. I have to continually reset and start the beast - I have cleaned the filters, inlets etc and checked for any other blockages but it seems fine - it just will not run for its "usual" cleaning cycle - any suggestions?

SOURCE: Dolphin pool cleaner cleaning cycle

The motor pack is failing and will need to be serviced which is not a do-it-yourself sort of project. Of course that may not stop you from trying but you will find that parts are not available inside the motor pack and that replacing it, if necessary, is best done in a service center to maintain new motor warranty. For price estimates on a replacement or to browse a FAQ on dolphins check out our site at www.arrowpools.net or you can contact the manufactrure's US rep at www.maytronicsus.com.

SOURCE: dolphin starts runs for a minute or so,no more

Thank you for posting your question here on Fixya.com.

For starters, try the tip I posted here on Fixya, found at: http://www.fixya.com/support/r3651526-dolphin_pool_cleaner_wont_start_up. If that is not enough, try our sites FAQ section on Dolphins at www.arrowpools.net. Select the FAQ button then from the drop-down select Dolphin.

If none of this helps your problem could be in the power supply, cable or motor unit. The motor unit is the most likely problem.

It is not recommended you open the cord end that connects to the motor unit as you are breaking the seal for the submersible electronics. For information about sending your unit in for repair use the dolphin form link on the bottom of our site.

Tip

Your Dolphin pool cleaner wont start up...

A common problem, especially with 'newer' Maytronics Dolphin brand pool cleaners is that you put the unit in the pool, or even try to turn it on after a cleaning cycle while it is still in the pool, and to that point it has worked fine. You turn the power supply on and nothing happens. You turn it off and back on and still nothing. You leave it, even over night, same thing. What do you do?

While I cannot tell you why it does this (we have a theory but can not confirm it) what usually works is to follow these steps...

1) Unplug everything. Unplug the power supply from the outlet and the Dolphin from the power supply.

2) Let the whole thing sit a couple of minutes (we want to allow any capacitors to discharge).

3) Be sure the Dolphin is out of the water and sitting upside-down on a level surface (Tracks pointing skyward).

4) Reconnect the Dolphin to the power supply and the power supply to the outlet.

5) With the Dolphin still out of the water, perform a self-test. Simply turn on the Dolphin. Within about 15 seconds it should begin to move. The tracks will spin in both directions with and without the impeller motor running at the same time. It is not unusual for the tracks to rotate at different speeds during this test. The test will last for 30 - 45 seconds or so. If it goes on indefinitely, turn it off and contact us for further direction.

6) Assuming the unit has now worked to this point, you should be able to put it back in the water and it will return to normal operation from this point on.

If it still won't run; it runs a few moments and quits the self-test; or runs continuously, contact us thru the Dolphin service form along the bottom of our home page at www.arrowpools.net.

Dolphin pool cleaner stops working after a 15 to 30 minutes. Even though the cycle time is set to 8 hours. How can I fix ?

It sounds like you might have a problem with the impeller or drive shaft, which are both common problems with these pool cleaners. Clean around your impeller and your wheels, axles, etc. If these do not cure your problem, it is probably an issue with your electrical system.

Dolphin Interactive pool cleaner stops running

If the dolphin is falling backward when it meets the water line, there is an easy fix. The automatic pool cleaners often have this problem. The easiest solution is to remove the handle floats and attach an 8 oz weight to the bottom inlet cover.

DOLPHIN DIAGNOSTIC AUTOMATIC POOL CLEANER STARTS AND STOPS

There may be moisture building up inside the motor housing. Try to Open it. http://www.i-love-my-aquabot-automatic-pool-cleaner.com/Maytronics-Dolphin-Repair.html

Then make sure no moisture accumulated in the circuits. Mine got the same problem.. after running trouble free for several years it suddenly stop running after the first few minutes..when i opened it a lot of moisture in the circuit. I tot it was toasted. so i took my hair blower and sealed it back and replace the moisture absober (it was soaked).. after first run it would run only the SELF TEST mode.. i tried several method to make it run all the way to the main program.. the solution.. start it and make sure it will not tilt in the first 10 minutes before you let i run sideways to the walls, this makes the program run back to normal.

Dolphin Commander goes forward 2' then back 2' then stops.

The impeller motor is likely worn out. New motor units are expensive but less so than a whole new unit. You can send it to us in Michigan at www.arrowmotor.net or find a closer service center using www.maytronicsus.com Good luck.
