Why would anyone remove the pos cable while running. thats how battery gets charged. Hard starting while at op temp? timing retarded to far?
Testimonial: "removed the pos cable to eliminate a bad altinator. it wouldnt run if the altinator is bad with the cable disconnected and the timing is fine"
where is the ect sensor on a 72 dart 340, cant seem to locate it
Not exact but on 318,360 and 440 up front next to t stat area. Still not sure on the pos cable. I know when you do it to a ford it blows the rectifier
your ect is right next to the t stat .googled it and seen it.
ect would make more sense on a f.i. instead of a carbed engine
still sticking with timing

your ign timing is to high you need to rotate your distributor clockwise about 4 deg.

Your ECT (Engine Coolant Temp) sensor is bad. What's happening is at cold start it richens up the fuel mixture and as it warms up the ECM thinks it's still cold and essentially the "choke" is still on. Also check your coolant level. If you don't have enough coolant in you engine/radiator, the ECT doesn't know what to do so it thinks it's cold.

Most likely air flow metre. Had same problem analysed and replaced and runs perfectly. Not cheap!
