Sending faxes doesn't seem to be a problem. When I tried to call the fax machine, there is a dial tone on the phone, but not on the fax machine.
If i send a fax to the fax machine, it just dials out.
The Fax is set in Fax mode and the plugs are in the right place.
When I press the hook button, the dial tone is audible from the fax machine.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
I'm not sure if I can help you or not, but I do have a suggestion or 2, that may help isolate the problem.
The solution I gave you initially, is the usual culprit for the situation you are experiencing. If the machine can "send", then "receiving" is not normally a problem, as long as the reception settings are correct. You said that "sending works fine"?
Since you have multiple faxes, you might try swapping the locations, or at least try the Samsung in a known working environment, to see if it behaves the same. If it works on another line, then try the other fax on the "Samsung" line.
That's all I have to suggest right now, but I'd be anxious to hear if there is any change.

hi sandmanmac,
yes the machine is set in "FAX" mode, which i understand is the auto receive mode.
As for the second comment - the business has multiple lines, so I tried to send a fax from a second fax machine. I also tried calling the fax line and it just rings out, with no fax signal or tone.
Do you think you can help me?
When you say the "fax is set in fax mode", do you mean the reception mode? Check this mode is set to "Auto receive", or "fax". I'm not sure of your terminology here.
When you say you send a fax to the fax machine, you give me the impression you are sending for your fax to your fax, which is impossible. You can test reception by either having someone send you a fax or calling it from any "other" line ...your cell phone for example, just to see if it picks up and you hear the fax signal.
