Question about Sharp Microwave Ovens

I can't defrost in the microwave Sharp S-250a. I choose defrost but then I can't choose any other option to set the time or start! thanks

We had the same problem, and the service technician quoted over $300 to fix it. My wife found this thread online (click on link below) and after following the advice here ours is now fixed for a total cost of under $40, and that included a new soldering iron (see below)!

The problem is either the damper motor or the damper switch. You can order both from Tritronics and ours shipped un less than a week. It is not possible to tell which it is without disassembling the microwave, so I ordered both. In our case it was the switch (one of the electrical contacts was black like it had burned out).

Read all the advice about discharging the capacitor; I would recommend downloading and printing out the service manual (especially page 18 which is an exploded parts diagram which helps you identify what is what (click on link below)

Page 14 is also useful because it gives you the part numbers to order from Tritronics. The two items you may need are 1-11 Damper switch and 1-22 Damper motor.

The space is rather tight, and you need to be very careful you don't cut your hand on the sharp (no pun intended) metal. It definitely helps to remove the long mounting bolts that runs through the space. Be very careful when disconnecting the electrical connections: the little metals tabs they use on the ends of the wires break very easily - hence the soldering iron. The most difficult piece is undoing the screw on the right hand side that secures the motor; it's just cramped and you need a very small/short phillips screwdriver to get to it. I would advise removing the switch first (it's secured by a couple of little metal tabs) because then the cam which drives the damper door will be able to drop free when you remove the motor. Finally, when installing the new motor, make sure that the tab on the cam wheel is correctly inserted into the little slot on the bottom of the damper door.

try defrost = 2.3 enter/start I use my sharp (not a R405) all the time to defrost meat and that's how mine works , I know its a bit confusing as defrost goes by weight not time like the cook mode does

My microwave stopped working you can input time but when you push start nothing happens it has power and everything just will not start its like the start button does not work


Possibly a bad door switch behind the holes where the latch hooks go into. Usually with the bad switch the timer counts down but nothing runs. It all depends on which switch is bad. Usually 3 switches inside.

Sharp Carousel R530BK microwave won't cook unless light pressure is kept on the door button.


There are door switches and one of them is evidently out of adjustment or the little actuator arm on it is.

Try hitting "defrost" once, then hitting "defrost" again to see if it brings up any options. Otherwise Google the words Sharp X customer support (where X is your country name) and only click a link which is an official Sharp site, not some click aggregator (*cough!*) or malware site.

How do you defrost on the microwave


What is need to set the program, select defrost function then select the weight of the food to be defrosted and push the value of the weight. Now select the heat value and press start as the processor will then decide the time to defrost.
This is a simple program setting or else you can choose a preset heating defroster program.

How to set clock on sharp microwave


normally you look for the clock ot watch icon. Pressing it once will give you the option for 24 hours setting. Press it twice and it will give you the opportunity to set to 12 hours setting. Using the no. keypad, punch in the time and then repress the clock icon again.

The clock works & counts down but the microwave won't heat


  • Disconnect the power for 30 seconds. After restoring power, do not set the clock.
  • If your model has an ON/OFF clock display, you can choose not to have the time displayed. To choose this option, press the 0 pad for about three seconds. To Turn the display back on, press the 0 again.





Touch the clock pad. Enter in the correct time of day by touching the numbers in sequence. Touch the clock pad again.
