Unless you are very handy, you might see if they sell the whole starter assembly, it would be faster.

How to change string?

Hello,

If you look at the bottom of the string holder (flipping the machine over) there should be either two tabs on the side across from each other that you press and pull, OR a twist and pull. There are several pieces, the inner piece that the string comes on has a hole that the string goes into to hold the string in place (needle nose pliers--press into hole). Then there is an arrow on the string holder, just wind the string in the direction of the arrow (does not have to be perfect) until you get enough on the holder. Now, hold the string so that the spool does not unravel--feed the end through the hole(s) and replace parts as they came off of the trimmer.

I hope this helps.

My homelite (the shrub sharper 21) pull string broke. I want to replace string. How do I replace new string.

Replacing a pull string on anything is a tricky operation, taking it apart is easy, but getting the springs back in place and everything wound up is not easy. I would suggest finding a local hardware store or equipment rental location, and find somebody to do it for you. I made the mistake of attempting to do it, and 3 hours later and a lifetimes worth of frustration later I got it. Save yourself the trouble and pass it off to somebody else.

Echo trimmer srm-230 pull string to start trimmer is stuck. I try pulling on it and it only comes out about an inch.

The pull string is probably tangled up. There are usually vents which enable you to see into the machines pull string assembly. Loosen the fasteners and pull off the cover exposing the pull string. You can unwind and untangle and then it should recoil perfectly. If that does not work continue to dismantle the pull string assembly because you probably have a broken starter pawl which is located on the back of the pull string assembly.

Bathroom heater: the string that turns it on came off

The string is actually attached to a bead chain. If the bead chain is still there, you can replace the cord with a new one from the hardware store. If she has actually pulled the chain out of the switch, I suggest you get a qualified electrician to replace the switch. They are quite inexpensive. (the switch, not the electrician)
