Question about Carrier Icp Heil Tempstar Furnace Blower Wheel Squirrel Cage 1173688 Hq1173688mn

1 Answer

I have a Heil furnace (Temp star 9000 I believe) model number NUGS075BG03 that is not working properly. The inducer motor runs fine and I can see a blue flame through the sight glass but the circulating fan will not run, please help. I put the thermostat to fan-on and still nothing. I'm pretty handy and know my way around a volt meter but I don't know what to test first. Thanks

You need to check to see if blower motor runs in ac mode, if not then the first thing you want to check is the capaciter for that motor. if capaciter is good, motor may be locked up, you can check the amps of the motor by putting an amp clamp around wires going to blower motor, all ratings should be listed on motor

SOURCE: Furnace Went Out! HELP PLEASE!!!!

The door closed or open should have no effect. The draft motor runs, no power to the glow plug or it is open,

The first place to look is at the furnace brain, a box located somewhere in the unit connecting to the gas valve, look at this brain [controller] and there should be a light of series of lights.

On the box itself there should be a matrix of codes such as: green light flashing= bad glow plug, or red, bad controller box, do you have anything like this?

Most have some sort of led light that narrows down the problem.

If not at least do these things:

make sure the power is off, and that the blower motor spins by hand freely.

next if you have a volt ohm meter, you can test the plug to see if there is a circuit, if the glow plug is open, that is one problem,

If you have a volt meter you can measure the leads at the plug to see if voltage is there or not.

There are so many checks and switches that will operate dependent on the operation of something else.

Unplug the furnace and keep the power off the brain, if so equipped for several minutes, see if it resets.

If it does great, if not tell me if there is a brain box and what the lights are, and what the matrix of light codes say, and we can go from there.

You can also measure for voltage from the thermostat to the furnace and make sure it is getting a signal on all wires, a thermostat wire could have come loose.

very difficult to troubleshoot a furnace when one is in front of it, let along without seeing it.

If you find no box, let me know, and let me know from these checks above if anything changes, or gives you more info to pass on to me.

Step at a time we can find this, a volt ohm meter will be really helpful.

SOURCE: Gas Furnace will not start when outside temperature rises to 50F

The anticipator basically prolongs or reduces the time from shut down to start up, so your furnace or air conditioner isn't cycling too much , off and on. It also will anticipate that the setting you have the thermostat set at is near, and will shut thermostat/burner off early, assuming that the temperature will be reached soon, just from heat already in chamber being circulated through system. If it gets too cold before furnace turns on, adjust anticipator, if too hot when it shuts down, go the other way, but whenever you move it, just go a little at a time, until you get it where you want it.

Amana 90 furnace won't ignite. Inducer fan runs for 30 seconds then shuts off and nothing happens. Try to turn fan on at thermostat and nothing happens. Ac works fine.

Most likely one of two issues is occurring. Either the inducer fan is not providing enough draft because it is either spinning too slowly or the impeller is damaged, or the pressure switch that the inducer motor air flow is supposed to activate is not operating properly. If the pressure switch fails to activate, the furnace will not open the gas valve and fire the ignition believing that there is not sufficient draft the vent the combustion gases.

I have a Heil H9MPDO75F2AZ QUIET COMFORT FURNACE and have replaced pressure switch and still not running

Hi Kim,
A couple things to check:

1) OK, you've replaced the pressure switch - good stuff. But the neoprene hose running from the pressure switch to the inducer motor... does it have any tears or cracks? Is the hose fittings clogged on the inducer side? Clean/replace as necessary if so. You cannot have any leaks or restrictions in this hose.

2) Try disconnecting the inducer (spent fumes exhaust fan) motor and check this motor coil for continuity with a multimeter. If the motor coil is dead, you'll need to replace the inducer (about $120.00?).

3) Check during initial startup of a heating cycle that there actually is 120vac arriving at the inducer motor coming in from the control board. If not, your board may be at fault.

Hope this helps!

Furnace runs too much thermastat is on 78 but temp only goes to 70. funace keeps going off and on

It sounds as if the furnace is working properly. The thermostat is not calibrated.
It is cold here and my heat runs a lot. If you can live with the numbers being off then don't worry about it.

Bryant furnance clicking, won't fire

try checking the pressure sensing switch,it has a tube that should run somewhere close to the inducer fan.sometimes this hose fills with liquids, and makes the units act funny.I don't know if you have a condensing unit or what.the furnace wont try to light if it cant tell the inducer motor is running.any induced draft unit will work this way.you can also do a temp. bypass of the pressure switch to make sure the contacts on it are closing just be sure your inducer fan is running, and you cant leave it like that its just a test.that is a safety feature you really need.

Heat not coming on carrier gas pack code 31

code 31 indicates pressure switch did not close or reopened during the heat cycle....1st thing to check is the inducer motor,,this is a small motor that turns a small blower wheel that draws the exhaust gases through the furnace and blows them into the vent pipe....1st locate the inducer assembly,,most easily identified by the small plastic fan blade that cools the inducer motor as it runs..1st turn off tstat and turn off furnace power switch..then turn on furnace switch, then set tstat to heat, set the temp above room temp by 5 degrees...remove the furnace front cover, locate the inducer motor,,if it isnt turning, but is warm or hot after a minute or so,likely the inducer motor is bad..if it isnt turning and isnt warm after 1 minute, then likely the main control board is bad,,not turning the inducer motor when it should,,,,,if the inducer motor is running,,then the pressure switch isnt closing,, could be a bad pressure switch but more likely there is a problem with the venting...some possible problems that would cause the pressure switch not to close in an 80% eff furnace [metal vent pipe] are: [1] a blockage in the vent pipe, base of chimney, dead bird at the furnace where vent connects to furnace or down inside the inducer assy, accessed by removing vent pipe from furnace....if all clear the chimney could be blocked up inside,,is the draft good when vent is removed from base of chimney?..if furnace is a 90%+ type [pvc plastic vent pipe],,then check the intake pipe at the furnace by removing it where it attaches to top of furnace..is the intake clogged with anything?..then check the intake and exhaust pipes outside for blockages,,including ice/frost/snow at the exhaust pipe outlet..
