If you knew how many mowers were out there and the multitude of drive train systems out there, you would of known to include the model #...
if it's an mtd with a variable speed pulley check for stretched belts and replace them as a matched set or get angry later...
if it's a hydro drive system check your fluid level...
if it's something else, help us by including the model #

Is it a hydrostatic tranmission? If so, sounds like the fluid might be old or not the right viscosity. Recommend changing the trans fluid, and use recommended viscosity of fluid.

Under the mower below the seat of the rider, at the rear of the tractor, look up and you will find the transmission there. There is a belt that runs on the pulley under there, and this belt can slip off when it gets worn or stretched. Sort of a tough spot to get to but, that is most probably cause.
