SOURCE: hello I need to replace the

This answer may only apply to Canon 12x36 IS II 5

To replace the battery cover you will need to split the central case.
To split the central case you will need to loosen the two very small philips screws located deep in the holes on each side. Then you need to remove the single philips screw between the adjustable oculars just below the focus knob. Finally remove the plastic name plate carefully since it is held on with double face tape. At this point you will carefully pry all around the half with the battery door off of the main body. It does not come off easily and there is no reason to remove or do anything to the objectives, focus knob or the eyepiece components. Once you have the cover off you will need to un-bend the battery door keeper tab so it slides through the slot and then remove what is left of the old battery door and at this point you install your new door and replace the keeper by doing a re-bend (best to buy a new keeper) finally install the cover. Not an easy fix and is a lot harder if you try to remove the oculars. Hint to remove oculars remove rubber covers first. Note that there is a plastic retainer outside of the objective lens tube to remove. Then roll the rubber off from the body to the objective. With these removed the rest will be obvious. On a easy (1) to hard (5) scale this is at least a 4.5.

I know this does not apply to the 18x50 IS UD 3.7 all weather since it has a rubber wrapper all over the body and objectives. But if you remove that rubber wrapper you may get there eventually.

Canon A75 Battery door

Never did it on an S1, but on other models it required removing the back face of the camera to access the battery doory hinge pin.

Examine your camera, and if this sounds feasible, remove all screws along the perimeter of the camera (keeping track of their sizes and where they came from, write it down with a crude drawing of their locations/sizes). Also look for screws in the battery compartment, and any visible screws behind flaps/doors. Once all perimeter screws are removed, you should be able to remove the back face of the camera by prying it open from the bottom. Once opened, the pin holding the battery door should be able to be slid out, enabling removal of the old door. Then in reverse slide the pin into the new door, and reassemble the camera and its screws.

Canon A75 Battery door

There is a pin that holds the battery door down, it might be removable without taking the case apart, other wise split the case and remove the pin and put the new door.
