It may be a dead drive. What kind of diagnostics other than your pc bios have you used? Have you tried to install the drive in a USB drive case and connecty it to another PC to see if it recognizes?

Testimonial: "I've tried it in an external drive box by sabrent. It provides power along with the connection. Same results=0. I had several drives go "blank" after I plugged in a new drive while the computer was running. I know, I know, but any hope if they shorted out or something?"

Read failure on internal hard drive

Reginald coleman,
If the bios sees the hard drive try the steps below to see if that will resolve the issue. If not, you may need to replace the hard drive.
  • Select your language, keyboard and currency layout from the onscreen menus.

  • Click "Repair your computer." Select the drive containing your Windows installation and press "Next." The computer will automatically be scanned for startup problems with the operating systemicon1.png, resolving those issues if possible.

    BLANK SCREEN FLASHING CURSOR

Ok, here is my next dilemma. I got the install disk and it gets to the point of asking where I want to install windows. The only option is Disk 0 unallocated space with 149 GIGs free. The 3 options I have are Refresh, load driver and Drive options (advanced). What do I do from this point? It says that this computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure that the disk's controller is enabled in the computer's BIOS menu. I am stumped at what that means.

No boot sector on internal harddrive

First - re-seat the harddisk and reboot the computer. If the computer does not boot up then reboot andgo into the BIOS configuration to see if the BIOS detects the hard drive. If itdoesn't detect the hard drive then it could be faulty.Next - to check if the harddrive is faulty, remove the hard drive and insert it into an USB hard drive adapter and connect it to a workingcomputer's USB port. If this computer cannot see itas an USB mass storage device and you cannot open the various folders and fileson this drive, then this confirms the hard drive is faulty. Then the hard drive needsto be replaced in the computer/laptop, Windows installed and the computer orlaptop's device drivers plus your programs etc. to get a functioningcomputer/laptop again.

Have line on the top black vertical line not so clear but its not normal

    Hi,
Please check if the problem can be seen in the BIOS screen. - you can go to the BIOS screen by tapping F2 repeatedly as soon as you turn on the computer.
If the vertical line can be seen in the BIOS screen, it is already a problem with the LCD screen and you need to contact the computer manufacturer for possible LCD replacement if your computer is still in warranty.
    Hope it helps you.

    1
Save any critical or important files. Even if this is an secondary hard drive installation.
    2
Turn off the power and unplug the PC from the outlet. Also, unplug all external connections to the Windows PC. Be sure to touch something metal to ground the user. Static electrical shocks can damage a PC.
    3
Open the PC housing and determine the placement of the hard drive. Generally computers come with a latch that, when pressed, opens the housing. Make certain the space necessary for the hard drive is available. Usually the drive bays are in the front of the PC near the CD or DVD drives.
    4
Make sure the IDE jumpers are set correctly. If the hard drive is the primary drive then set the jumpers to "Master" mode. If the hard drive is the secondary drive then set the jumpers to "Slave" mode. Please consult the hard drive's manual for the proper jumper setting for each mode. Another possibility--if there are two hard drive, set both drives to "Cable select" mode and the Windows PC will choose which one to make "Master" and "Slave."
    5
Mount the hard drive in the available internal slot. The drive is sometimes mounted with four screws to the drive bay. Some internal drives have a rail that slides into the open bay. Look at the other devices to determine which mounting option is available in the specific computer.

    6
Connect the hard drive cables to the Windows PC. Connect the power supply connector to the available cable. Next, connect the data cable to the available connector. The internal data cable usually has a red stripe to make identification easier.

    7
Close the housing and reconnect the external power supply. Plug the external cables back into the computer and reconnect to the power supply.
    8
Configure the BIOS. The BIOS (Basic Input/Output System) is accessible during computer start-up. To access the BIOS consult the computer manual to find out with which key press during start-up. Most often, the key is F8. Once in the BIOS change the hard drive setting to "Auto detect." When finished, exit the BIOS and allow the start-up to continue.
    9
Format and partition the Windows PC hard drive. Select "Start" from the operating system menu. Choose "Control panel" from the start menu. Next click on "Administrative tools". From the administrative tools menu choose the "Computer management" icon and finally "Disk management." Choose the new hard drive and right click. Select "New partition" from the right click menu. Follow the on-screen option to partition and format the drive the drive.
    10
Restart the computer and check the hard drive to ensure it is operating properly.

It sounds like a problem with the card on the drive. You could try replace the card with one from an identical drive just to see the result you will get. I have read a lot about what they call "the click of death". So it could well be time for a new drive ckanca. The fact that the bios isnt detecting the drive points to the card. You sould also ensure there is no dirt on the cards contacts with the drive body (by removing the card and cleaning them aswell as ensuring they all make proper contact).

    * If it is not seen you need to replace the Hard drive - get in touch with Dell or local tech
    * If the hard drive six is seen then you can reinstall te OS that will fix the issue
    * Do the following steps for that

Dell has a default partition on the computer and you can install with the same..
If you have windows vista on the computer then tap F8 when the computer turns on and then you will be able to see the advanced boot options.. Select repair my computer.. In the repair my computer screen select the dell factory image restore...
Your computer will go through the installation and it will be up and running...

    Hi,

Start the computer and hit the F2 key until you get into the BIOS. When in the BIOS you can see in the Main/general page whether the hard drive is seen by the system. You will see HDD (hard drive) CD-ROM which is the optical disk drive.
If you see the hard drive the look for boot options in the tabs. When you get to boot options set the HDD as the first boot device, save the settings and exit the BIOS.

Hopefully the laptop will restart and boot from the hard drive, thus into Windows.

If the hard drive is not seen in the BIOS then the hard drive has failed and needs replacing.
If you have a BIOS password then start the computer hit F12 repeatedly until you see the boot option menu and choose the HDD.

    Regards.

When I turn on my dell 1525 it says internal no bootable devices

The BIOS is not reading your hard drive. Take the drive out and reboot into BIOS. Make sure the SATA port is enabled. Turn the laptop off and reinstall the hard drive, make sure it seats all the way and is secure in its caddy. Reboot and see if it reads the drive.
