Question about Nikon ProStaff Laser 440 Rangefinder

Open Question

My rangefinder will not range anything. I cannot get it to reset. I have tried to hold the buttons in for 30 seconds and I have also bent the battery end up a little bit, and have not gotten any results. Is there anything I can do to fix it??

SOURCE: Won't range even after reset

Well after going through the reset procedure (holding both buttons down for 30 seconds) the unit didn't appear to be working. Being somewhat new to the proper use of this device it appears that it might be sensitive to low light conditions or certain objects. After playing with it more I'm now able to get it to work but there are still certain conditions where it won't give me a reading.

SOURCE: My rangefinder worked perfectly for two years.

Hi,

This is a common problem on these rangefinders. If your range finder has a mode button and a power/range button try holding both of these buttons down at the same time for about 20-30 seconds. this acts a "reset" option on some of the Nikon rangefinders.Unless you need to send it to repair to Nikon. The charge would be around $175. So, the ball is in your court whether to get it repaired or buy a replacement.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

Reset button location

To perform a hard router reset, keep the router powered on. Then, find the unit's reset button, often located on the rear of the device. Use a pen tip or bent paperclip if necessary to depress the button and hold it down. Network administrators are taught to hold the button down for 30 seconds; your router probably does not require waiting that full length of time, but this is a good general rule to follow. After releasing the hard reset button, a router may need up to 1 minute to reboot and resume normal operation.
An alternative method for hard resets involves holding the reset button down for 90 seconds instead of 30, unplugging the router from power and then re-plugging it partway through as described in these instructions for the 30-30-30 hard reset rule. This more involved reset process may not work on some routers and should only be tried if the basic 30 second version does not work.
To avoid Internet connectivity complications, disconnect the broadband modem from the router before performing hard resets.

Rangefinder does'nt register new battery

Then they sold you a battery, that was on the shelf for years, or the contacts in your rangefinder are not clean and shiny. If so, you could try to clean the contacts with a dry cloth. Never use anything sharp on contacts, because that will damage the apparatus and will make the rangefinder unusabl

Change from meters to yards on bushnell chuck adams rangefinder

First, remove the battery then replace it to reset the unit, then ...
Taken word for word from the manual: While looking through the eyepiece, press and hold the POWER button down for approx. 5 seconds. During this time all liquid crystal segments and icons will be displayed. As you continue to depress(hold down) the power button, the display will toggle back and forth between Yards and Meters. Once the unit of measure desired is displayed, simply release the power button. The device will return to the last unit of measure setting used each time the unit is turned on.

I have a Nikon rangefinder 350G. I bought it last year. I find the reading is getting less sensitive comparing when it was brand new. It is hard to get reading when it is as far as 120 yards and more....

Push mode and power button together and hold down for 30 seconds to reset before you send it in for alignment repair. The reset might work and save you $$$.

The target image does not appear in the veiw window.

With the battery cover off, place the battery in the unit correctly, push the battery in, hold it in, and hit the fire button at the same time. IF the unit comes on, then the problem is the metal tabs that the battery touches are bent too far in. Take a small flat screwdriver and GENTLY bend the battery tabs out a little. If the unit still doesn't work send it in for repairs.

Nikon ProStaff Laser 440 not working

Here is the address to send your rangefinder for repairs.
  • Nikon INC.
  • 841 Apollo St. Suite 100.
  • Elsegundo, CA 90245-4721
  • Attention: Repair Department
  • Phone (800) 645-6678.
I had the same issue with my Nikon Laser 800 rangefinder. I sent it in and they wanted $311.00 to fix it so I bought a new one for $300.00 off EBAY. Today I was missing around with my old rangefinder and noticed after I put the battery in I could hear something loose in the rangefinder. There is a little metal tang in the bottom where the battery goes that holds tension on the battery that was bent down. I bent it back up about 3/16" and put the battery back in, now it works fine.

I just got mine to work. It was doing the same thing. I guess I re-set it. I figured there had to be some way to re-set it. So I pushed the mode button and the power button simultaneously for 30 second. Then it worked! Wooptidoo :)
