My Acer Aspire 5100 will not stop shuting down and restarting. It is trying to configure 3 of 3 updates. I tried the going through the F8 button and going through the last configuration section. That did not work. Is there anything else I can do?

try going into safe mode and then choose the system restore option and go back to a point before you installed the updates

Hi sboon4...did I lose you on chat? I have a couple more things to try....

hello?
inthecellar says:
I'm not sure if you're still connected but I have a couple more things to try here...so I'll type it out.

inthecellar says:
If you can get back to a command prompt again, you can try the following:

inthecellar says:
C:\windows\winsxs\pending.xml C:\windows\winsxs\pending.old.xml
C:\windows\winsxs\cleanup.xml -> C:\windows\winsxs\cleanup.old.xml

inthecellar says:
You want to rename the pending.xml to old and cleanup.xml to old.

inthecellar says:
if that doesn't work then try going into the bios of the Acer to choose recovery (which may erase all data) by hitting Alt-F10 while it boots up.

inthecellar says:
my email is [email protected] if you need more assistance...I'll keep it connected.

My Acer Aspire 5580 turns on but has no display on the monitor. How can I solve this?

HI

can you try to start up with power key and also press the f8 key at the same time

now can you see anything if you can

go down to and try to click on repair and if that dont work on restart
then start up again pressing the f8
and try last good configuration and if that dont start up correctly then

try to restart again pressing f8 and try to go into safe mode when you probably will be able
to see the screen

and if you can go to device manager
scroll down to find the display
uninstall it and do a restart and hopefully windows will find new hardware and
reinstall the display correctly but it will probably just give you a standard vga driver

so on restart if you can then see your screen you could go to
start
programs/windows updates
check for new updates to see if there is a update for your vga

good luck

My acer computer keeps shuting itself down

Try tapping F8 at startup, and from the list of startup selections, select Safe Mode by using UP Arrow Key to go there > then hit Enter.

Try a System Restore once there, to pick a Restore Point before your problem..

Click Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore > pick a time previous to last update > Next > etc

I have acer aspire 5920 vista when i shut down laptop i pressed acer arcade button then it started up and shut down again now it will not start up !all im gettin is restore settings .they dont work to...

tell me, are you able to get to the menu when you computer starts up (F8 options )

if so just go for the option last knowing good configuration.

it will start up as normal. if it does try to do a system restore from a few days ago.. restart again and it will work .

in case the F8 menu does not show up.try removing the battery for at least 3 days so the CMOS resets to default.

hope it works

ACER Aspire 5100 powers down at will

When you turn the laptop on hit f8 until the menu comes up, try use the last good known configuration. If that does not work tap f8 goto safe mode and then to system restore and restore it to an earlier time. Let me know if it works.

Configuring updates dont stop

I'll assume last known good configuration didn't work, if you press f8 and choose disable automatic restart on failure, you should see the blue screen of death with more info, when you reboot the next time,(you may have to hold in power button for 5 secs), press f8 and see if Repair my computer is listed on the Microsoft Startup menu, if not, insert a windows vista disk and restart, booting to the cd(should happen automatically, but look for a prompt to press a key) choose your language, then choose repair my computer, choose the windows installation, and you can try to use system restore to go back before the uodates were installed and updated, then disable automatic updating so it doesn't repeat.

Windows failed to start !...

Hi,
Boot your computer with the recovery CD In the Drive.
You should get the option ** Boot From CD**
highlight click Yes, and overwrite the O/S.
This will re-install windows over your existing version, replacing any corrupt-deleted-missing Files.

My Acer aspire 5100

If you are able, when the pc is booting up keep pressing F8, this will take you to safe mode and not allow the graphics driver to run. When in the safe mode options, select either Last known good configuration or start windows in safe mode. Last known good configuration should find the last good system settings, when it reboots. Start windows in safe mode allows you to go into windows using the administartor account, and then you should select system restore and restore back to the day before or just before you updated the graphics driver.
