In most P&S, the program mode is the best to play with, you'll find lots of settings to play with, do an online crash course on which means what, and go ahead and shoot. :)

My nokia 5300 camera is not working. As soon as i open a camera mode it says camera on standby and operation failed

Switch off the phone, remove the memory card and boot again without the memory card. Now try accessing the camera, hope it's working now. I would suggest you to scan the memory card or format it (i recommend formatting the memory card so that it'll not fail).
If the problem persists even without the memory card, reset your phone's settings to Factory Default by going to the Settings > Restore Factory (open the settings, press up key once, you'll see the "Restore Factory") using the code 12345. Your phone will automatically restart. Now try again with camera.

If both the above methods don't help out, your only option is to flash the phone or update the firmware. But I don't recommend do these yourself, a small mistake or incomplete will damage the phone or will create more problems. You can visit any service center or any mobile repairing center and get it done with a small fee.

Good luck.

Thanks for using FixYa.

Auto focus problem

Well, if all the software is ok, maybe the button is damaged and not able to give the two modes any more. If the camera has done it´s fair share of pictures, maybe it needs some repairs... since you´re the first that I personaly have heard is in this situation.
Mechanical things get broken more easily than we want, I guess. I´d recommend a repair shop for your camera and let us know how you ended up, please.

All pictures with flash come out underexposed and can hardly be seen.

Hi!
It sounds like the flash unit has to be replaced - I have seen problems like these with these cameras and changing the flash unit helped. I'm afraid you won't be able to repair it yourself. You should contact your local Canon service center.

Hope this helps!

Canon XTI Flash problems

I personally would recommend getting expert help - flashes produce a high voltage flash (several hundred volts to several thousand), and can be dangerous - even this camera's flash gun. It sounds like it is shorting when you tap it, so likely a loose connection. You can't do it yourself, so get proper advice. You can try your local camera dealer, or better, send it back to Canon Service. If out of guarantee, get a quote for looking at it. They will likely have come accross this before, so don't worry - it is likely fixable .

Hope this helps

Black screen on my Canon PowerShot A640

I had this problem too. Try the "DISP" button (bottom left on the display side of the camera. It allows you several viewing options, and is easy to accidentally hit and turn the LCD screen "off."

Memory Card Error

Two suggestions:

1. Try gently blowing clean air into the memory card slot. It's possible a bit of lint or dirt is on the contacts and needs to be removed. A can of compressed air will work for this.

2. (More advanced) If possible use a q-tip to gently rub the contacts for the memory card inside the camera. Again, you're trying to clean the contacts.

If neither works you'll have to consider bringing or sending your camera in for service. It's possible that it needs to be opened up for service and I don't recommend that you do that yourself.

Blurry pics

Sounds like the auto focus mechanism in the camera needs to be cleaned and adjusted. The camera can be repaired yourself but it takes a great deal of mechanical know how and knowledge. Several links have already been posted on this issue.

I recommend you take the camera to a repair shop and have it done correctly.
