Question about Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ1 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Panasonic DMC-TZ1 After switching on the camera Zoom will not work. i.e. stuck at wide angle. The screen says' remove lens cap and try again' After repeating that suggestion several times it will still not work. is this a warranty problem( I still have some left) or is it something I can fix?

Re: Panasonic DMC-TZ1

I just had this problem, too. I basically disassembled the camera by removing the back cover, front cover, and top assembly. The top assembly includes a plastic part between a circuit board and the top external metal piece that houses the button on the top of the camera. On the circuit board there is a switch for the zoom that looks like a pinball flipper. You have to make sure that it's working properly and you may have to remove the metal dust cap and remove any sand if it's lodged in the mechanism. It's pretty tough if you're not good with your hands because it's extremely small. I did this and the zoom began working like normal again, but then I got the message that the camera needs to be turned on and off every time I turn on the camera...

Camera screen saying 'Please turn camera off then on again.' What does this mean Have done this, Battery ok. Deleted photos. Lumix DMC-TZ1

It is possible that the error is due to failure of the camera's main control system. You can remove battery and card replace battery and while switching on tap the lens hood on your hands so as to disengage any dirt or mechanism being struck.
The fault seems likely that the camera can have a stuck up mechanism or a jammed shutter. Hence unless you are familiar with handling of small devices must the camera be opened. If so check the voltage on the motor drive, check the auto focus and Zoom drives, it must be free with manual movement. If jammed the motor can be removed and realased. If none of these works then you can think of taking consensus with the service centre.
Get estimate before you decide. It will be good to have it checked at the authorised service as you do not have to run around for spares.

I have the Panasonic dmc-tz1 it keeps saying to turn camera off then back on. I do this and still cannot take pictures or use camera!!! HELP!

You surelly drop down the camera or you have some sand inside the zoom lenses movement. You need to open the camera, opens the zoom lenns the clean the gear or replace the broken gear inside lenses

I posted a solution yesterday on Fixya, but can't find it. Same problem, same camera, solution reached on Feb 10 2009 after a couple days of frustration. I gently wiggled the lens by pushing my fingers one on either side (not the outer ring, but the inner ring, but keep your fingers off the glass part). It moves perhaps a fraction of a millimeter, but it moves. After I did that, the problem went away. It's hard to describe, just a gentle 3 or 4 times push on either side; you may have to change finger positions to get the movement. It apparently only takes this to get the lens back on track. Good luck, it's a great camera. Lee

Upgrade to the TZ3 or TZ5. TZ3 is smaller and has a great wide angle lens. You can get a very good buy on Ebay for a used or new TZ3 because it has been replaced with the latest TZ5.

You can likely get about $40 dollars for yous, if it has all the stuff it shipped with, even with the problem you mention, since repairmen buy time to fix and resell on ebay.

Sell it to a repairman on ebay and buy a good used, refurb or new replacement. I would ugrade to at least the wide angle 6Meg TZ3. The TZ5 is the newest TZ line.

Great cameras. I have the TZ3 and have never looked back.

Panasonic DMC-FZ7 digital camera.

I believe the FZ7 determines that the lense cap is still on when it can't extend the zoom lense because the lense cap is in the way. I would check to see if your zoom lense housing is somehow stuck (could be sand or dirt in it) which is creating enough resistance to make the camera think the lense cap is impeding the zoom lense from extending.
