The HP test centers have run a whole host of crazy conditions. One was a test to see if their disk array could with stand the test of fire and decreased oxygen in the room the array is in. They found that even with reduced oxygen and the increased pressure from the pressure fire extinguishers the array was still able to function properly without problems. You can be sure with an HP that it will last almost anything you can throw at it. Although its recommended not to throw things at it.

We have Prolian 570 Server with 4 X 18GB SCSI HDD with windows 2003 server installed. It was installed in 2004. Till then it was working fine . Recently there was some mishandling and It crashed and showed...

Good News and Bad:

Bad News - if the server was dropped really hard, the drives needles may be damaged and can not read the data on the disk(s).

Good News - If you know of a local company that do hard drive repair, they may be able to get the drive to work again to at least transfer the information to a new drive. (Check you local yellow pages for Data Recovery services.)

Hope you at least have a backup of the information that was on the drives.

Good Luck

old G2
new hdd connected to what? you left that fact out.
you never told the configuration of the RAID array now, mode or number of drives present nor if all that works ok. before the act above.
are you using the external channel ports?>

and that all that runs perfectly until you said external above.?
are you adding a new drive to the array, or used drive.

to added a drive you must use the HP special applications to do that correctly and the most easy.
in fact you need to tell it what to do with the added drive to any array or set it up as separate array.
if fact in some cases it will attempt to auto expand the array you have, now , if its allowed (mode limit) and you should not turn off any server, after plugging in new disk, as that error interrupted the in process configurations of said new drive , (bad deal that)

what you do use use the application program(SSA) to see the states of the existing array first then add a drive and tell it what to do with it, that is the process.
for example on striped sets, it can take a day or more to expand.
The more data there the longer. all this is covered at the site, how to expand any array. did you ask first how or just throw in a drive? (did you read the limits of each mode of RAID?)
An added driver can be set up as
  • array expansion,
  • or to replace a bad drive
  • or stand alone drive.
  • A hot spare
  • or the beginning of new 2nd array.
and more..... what is your goal here, it was never once stated.
see? (eg I have 5 disk raid
first learn how the SMART works it tricky until learned.

the manual

the HPE forum , join and ask how to do this. its non trivial !

this is the proper program that I use to configure my array
using the HP application called SSA.

it cost nothing, its on there down load pages at
that is HP enterprise, not consumer PC site.

here are answers on your 532, , read abit and you learn the ropes.

is your 532 bbwc , battery working,? and present.?
if not array expands will be super slow. think SNAIL slow.
the first thing to learn
is what Application, is best, and newest and supports the old G2.
for my G7 is SSA.(the ACU program is old and not good now)
ask HP first that question. many answers there on the forum are wrong due to applications going obsolete, (get the newest program)
and upgrade the card, to newest firmware. allows RAID 6.

Hi guies the windows srever 2003 files in my hp ml370 is corrupt and i tried to fix the prblem by format one hard disk partition in my scasi disks array and installing win srv 2003 on it but whe i log on...

HP SmartStart CD x32
The utility to use to set up the ML370 g3 server is the SSCD (smart start cd) this is a guided installation cd that will help you set up the array, install drivers and diagnostic utilities and after that
will request the windows cd so that you can finish the installation.
1. download SSCD from here
2. extract the zip file
3. burn the ISO image to a cd
4. boot the server to the cd
5. choose from the main menu the option "Deploy server"
6. follow the wizard

Install an operating system (Windows Server 2008) on a used HP

Hi, Have you checked the BIOS? Check the Backup ROM option (change to Backup ROM)
If you haven't change the Boot Order: Go into RSBU and change the Order.
Note: If you have Scsi you do not need to do any additional things rather than this. If your product has a Smart Array Controller, during the POST, press F8 during the Smart Array controller ID to access the configuration utility, delete and re-create the disk array to wipe out whatever might be on the disks.
Feel free to contact again. Let me know what happened.
Thanks for contacting Fixya! (Please rate the answer as well)

Run Compaq Array Configuration Utility

Hi Foambob,

Try all means to get a smartstart CD.
Normally new version will be able to use on older hardware , but no guarantees.
I have always found it easier to use smartstart CD auto mode.
You can also do the install and then run ntssd to update all the drivers etc., but I don't recommend it for novices. Use the auto mode , it takes longer but safely and surely.

Good luck

I can´t use a serial ata disk in a proliant 350

I know ATA disks are cheaper , but they don't last as long or are less reliable.

I do not recommend mixing SCSI and ATA .

Use one or the other , not both.

Do not try , unless your server is non critical.
If it is non critical , why bother with server , a PC will do as well.
