Question about Ovens

1 Answer

Hi, I have a Howdens/Lamona HJA3300 electric oven and there is a "booster/turbo" setting to preheat the oven more quickly which you are then meant to switch back to standard before cooking. The problem is if I switch the dial back to standard it just starts cooling down again. The element obviously seems to be working (as it heats up in the first place) but I just can't figure out what the problem might be. The manual says not to cook in "turbo" mode so i'm not sure what to do. Does anyone have any ideas what this might be?

Turbo often runs all the elements. I reckon that you have a multifunction switch and the other settings (try base heat _ ) still work.
If so >> check fan element

Many thanks for your reply. The oven has the following settings: light only, grill, grill with fan, fan oven and "turbo", everything seems to work fine except the fan oven which seems a little strange.

PS. the fan still turns on but it just doesn't seem to activate the heating element at the same time.

SOURCE: Oven does not maintain temperature while cooking.

Is this a gas unit? If so you might have a weak oven igniter.

SOURCE: oven does not heat

I would suggest that you check the oven element, it sounds as though it is faulty to me.

SOURCE: smeg oven not working. only clock and thermostat light working

It sounds like you have either one of the following things that need attention. First, turn off both breakers to the oven and then back on. Next check the wiring from the receptacle to the back of the oven. Next, check your internal fuses. Most ovens have them. Last, check the wiring to the elements and control switches. Somewhere you have a wire burned off the terminals or control switch. That smell you referred to is probably one of the wires that may be burned.

Has anyone had a problem with the inner glass on the Lamona oven door exploding. Mine just has! It's only 18 months old and hardly used. I wonder if it's the difference in temperature betweeen the hot oven...

We bought our kitchen from Howden's as well about 15 months ago. They installed a Lamona double oven and hob. Last night when opening the door to the bottom oven our glass on the inner door exploded as well. Maybe there was a batch of defective ovens as ours sounds as though they mat have been bought/manufactured at the same time.
