Unfortunately that's a big labour job and almost zero parts job. The case needs to be split so you can get inside it, the screw that the lever pivots on is either loose or the lever arm is bent, it will be one or the other.

How do I replace the speed control lever on a kitchenAid artisan mixer

Remove back cap, remove white wire and black wire from lower corner of speed control plate, both on same side on adjacent terminals. Remove the gasket thing at the back as well.
Remove chrome drip ring from around planetary, knock pin out of planetary and remove the planetary.
Flip upside down on a towel and remove pedestal by taking out hinge pin (1 locking screw from underneath inside pedestal)
Remove all screws from bottom side of gearcase, 5 around planetaty, 2 in the middle and 2 at the back.
You can now seaparate the gearcases to get to the speed control lever which is held on by 1 screw.

Why wont my classic kitchenaid mixer switch off

Good Morning,

There is a spring inside your mixer attached to the speed control switch and speed control arm, the spring can sometimes get caught on the slide bar that is just below it inside the mixer. The other reason is that the speed control switch plate in the rear of the machine (that the spring attaches to) vibrates the three speed adjustment screws out or in and the spring will pull the speed switch (control arm that you use to control mixing speed when using the mixer) back to the stir position after you try to turn the mixer off.

If it is a spring problem you will have to do a full tear down to get at the spring and either free it or replace it. If it is a problem with the adjustment screws on the speed plate, that can be handled at the rear of the machine and is twice as easy to get at but sometimes much more frustrating to adjust. There are "YouTube" videos on the internet that will walk you through the process of adjusting your speed control plate just Google "adjusting speed on kitchenaid mixer" I hope this helps. please let us know if it does and if you have other questions just post them here and we will "FixYa"

How to tighten kitchenaid mixer motor head locking lever?

Adjust the head height first, flat paddle should just clear the bowl. Te head height adjustment can be seen in by the hinge looking from the front when the head is raised. Screw in (clockwise) to lower and out to raise. You cannot get the head lock right when head height is miles out

How do I fix a speed control switch that doesn't stay in the off position?

My daughter had this problem with her mixer. The problem is that the screw that holds the speed lever has come loose. To get at the screw you have to dismantle the head. It took me about 1/2 hour to take it apart and put it back together. It is not that hard, except that you have to drive a pin out of the beater shaft. Works great now.

OK you have mains voltage across the black wire and the white wire on the 2 bottom terminals on the left side of the speed control plate. You are certain that the carbon brushes are in the correct way around with the shaved off corner lining up with the blocker in the brush holder. Are the switch contacts touching when the lever is moved to position 1. They are on the inside of that black control plate. If they are touching and still no go you need to check that the fields have a circuit. You notice that the black and the white wires cone from inside the machine, there are 2 more going inside as well. Remove the brushes and check for a circuit between one of those other 2 wires to one of brush holders and the other wire to the other brush holder. If that's OK you are pretty safe to change the phase board that is above the black control plate. It has about 4 wires coming out of it. The control plate has wire colours written on it beside each terminals so there is no chance of a mistake if you can read.

Kitchenaid stand mixer won't stay in off position

The speed control lever is either bent or the screw it pivots on has come loose. The only way to solve the problem properly is to take off the back cover, remove the white and the black wires from the speed control plate, remove it from the pedestal (1 screw up inside the pedestal to remove hinge pin), take the chrome drip ring off, remove the planetary and remove the 9 screws holding the 2 case halves together. That will allow you access to the lever and you will be able to tighten the screw or remove and bend the lever to give it more tension on the bumps in the housing that hold it in off or speed positions. This list is pretty much in order of how you do it.

SPEED CONTROL ALWAYS ON HIGH

Speed control plate at the back is stuck in the high position or you need a new phase board. That's the small PCB under the back cover at the top.

Kitchenaid stand mixer will not stay in the off position.

There is a spring, item #4, which hooks on to the bottom of the control plate, item # 25, and pulls it back when you move the lever to off. Remove the rear cover and see if that spring is still connected to the control plate and to the lever arm, Item # 3. Here is the diagram:

My KitchenAid Artisan stand mixer won't turn on, the lever won't slide into the "on" position. It's only about 3 years old.

It sounds like something is obstructing it or the lever is bent. You will need to take the head apart to investigate further.

Lever speed arm is frozen in the off position

hi i can see your problem there, if you can remove to top cover of your mixer its better cuz' you can see the slider on your speed arm spray it with WD40 rust remover, or any brand that you have wait up to 30 min' to 1 hr and try move slide arm if not try again puting some rust remover, and if it moves its better and then clean it with contact cleaner and if you don't have try lacquer thinner use brush. and dry it up to 2 to 3 hrs to be sure.

peace!
