Re: indesist dishwaher sdl 535

When i attend dishwashers that have lost power to some part or short out at any point, i always check for broken wires inside the door skin, the wire harness inside the door skin gets hot and cracks with use when opening the door all the time, alternatively there could be a short on any of the working parts, unplug each part one by one and switch back on to test, when you have unplugged the faulty part the switch will not trip, replace as needed work with safety keep fingers out and unplug from power supply when disconnecting parts for testing hope i have helped if so please rate me

Dishwasher is tripping RCD, can it be repaired?

not necessary-- yet-- to buy a new unit
tripping the rcd is an indication of earth leakage which could amount to water in the wall plug across pins, moisture across the power board, water in the motor, faulty heater element
what you need is an accredited electrician to run tests on the system to find the reason for the earth leakage that is tripping the rcd
the rcd works from microvolts and operates in nano seconds to prevent electrocution of the operator
testing before buying may save heaps of cash

D/w works in other sockets but not in the one it is supposed to doesn't trip its own breaker just trips main

There could be an overload problem with the socket that you are plugging the machine into. Dishwashers will pull about 10amps when heating. If the circuit breaker is rated at this or less, it will trip out. If there is an electrical fault with the machine, it will trip out any circuit breaker or RCD ( Earth safety device)

I have a Bosch Classixx slimline dishwasher. I completes most of the cylcle but trips out the electricsnear the end of the cycle - probably the drying cycle - any ideas Garry

Hello Garry,

I suspect the element in the water heater is either burning out or shorting to earth. If it's burning out, the increased resistance will cause an overload and trip the breaker or blow the fuse for that circuit. If it's shorting to earth, it may trip both the breaker and the RCD in your fuse box / consumer unit.

Next time it happens, check whether the RCD switch (assuming you have one) is in the 'OFF' position. Most breaker boxes will be fitted with an RCD which protects many, or all, of the individual circuits. It's easily identified by the presence of a 'TEST' button.

That's only going to be a clue to the likely cause of the fault though. You really need to do some testing of the element with an ammeter and/or multi-meter, if you have one. I can provide instructions for testing if you have the equipment and inclination.

Unfortunately, if it is the water heater, the cost of a replacement is about £100 for the part alone, for the SGS43C12. Water heaters for most other Bosch models are roughly the same price and some of the older models can be £130+. If you need to get someone in to fit it, you could be looking at a total bill of between £150-200. Considering the age of the SGS43C12 / Classixx, it may be time to consider replacing the dishwasher.

Obviously, I'm assuming it's the water heater as this is the most likely cause, but there are other possible faults. If you need any instructions on testing, etc, please confirm the correct model number as the SGS43C12 isn't a slimline model.

Hope this helps. Please let me know if I can be of further assistance.

My Whirlpool ADG 7550 Dishwasher trips out all my electrical sockets as soon as its plugged in. It failed whilst in mid wash. Any advice?

It is possible there is a short in the electric system in the dishwasher. There are two possibilities

1. there is a leak to the earth due to some water leakage and this causes the earth relay to trip.
2. the dishwasher motor coil or capacitor is shorted and drops the circuit breaker.

If it is related to 1, then best to take the dishwasher out from the cabinet and check with multimeter if power plug Live is showing short with Earth connection. You will have to find source of the water leak onto the power board.

If it is related to 2, then isolate the motor capacitor and try again. But 2 is unlikely if the breaker trips even if the dishwasher is not turned on.

Please post a comment if you find anything.

My Hoover HDS 555 M-80 trips the circuit breaker whenever the power button is pressed. The fuse in the plug is fine and it's not the socket - any ideas

Probably an earth fault. Unplug and check the resistance of the live pin of the plug to earth. Finding where the fault is will be difficult though unless it is something obvious

Hotpoint aquarius fdw60 tripping problem

I would agree with you. Everything you say here certainly points to a faulty heating element. The original is fitted with two factory fitted clips so you may need to go to your local garage and get two jubilee clips as they don't usually come with the new element.

Faulty Diplomat Dishwasher - tripping mains fuse

My dishwasher a diplomat 12 program (hja8640) was doing exactly the same where every now and again when turned on at the plug it would trip. After engineers coming out several times and failing to fix it, they condemed it. New one was supplied, however did exactly the same thing. The electrician came back, checked the RCD power breaker and this was fine. It was then discovered that some dishwashers and washing machines send out a lot of earth leakage, combine this with other appliances on in the house can be enough to trip.

Soloution. The electrician removed the kitchen circut from the RCD breaker and intalled another breaker RCD just for the kitcehn loop, this therefore means that the kitchen has a seperate trip from the rest of the house, and touch wood, has solved the problem. This mind you has taken about three months to work out so i hope it saves you some time.

Always use a fully qualified electrician though.

Smeg Dishwasher

This is usually the heating element - corrosion lets small amounts of water through the element jacket, making the mineral insulation inside slightly damp. When the machine applies power to the element, enough current leaks from live to earth to trip the RCD. In the absence of a proper electrician's insulation tester (a DVM in ohms mode doesn't test at a high enough voltage to give a meaningful result) the best way to prove this fault is to (carefully, and with the power off!) disconnect and tie back the wires that go to the element, then run the machine and see if it gets any further in the cycle. A.
