Nad 317 Start problem, no power.

I have a NAD 317 Power amplifier. When turning on power, relay RL201 start to "click", but dont seem to connect. It just stay on clicking. This is a problem that is comming and going? No and then it works perfect. There are also two zenerdiods, D657 and D658 that gets very hot, on the "input, standby led & led PCB"! It seems like a periodic problem?? I am educated radio, TV and electronic engeneer, but have for many yaers worked with data software. Still I like to keep my repairknowledge in shape. Frendly regards PGB Norway

SOURCE: Cant get it to power up

I had exactly the same problem. Here is how I resolved it. 1. There is a reset button inside the battery compartment, in the center, between the C cells. Try pushing it with a paper clip or similar item. 2. If that doesn't work, replace the C cells. 3. If that doesn't work, try replacing the lithium backup battery. It is located between the C cells, in a compartment with an arrow. 4. I finally did all three at the same time, replacing the C cells, lithium battery, and resetting the system. The radio has worked fine for two days now. Good luck.

Machine will not turn on -- checked obvious -- nothing else attached to machine.

You may have a bad switch, will might need to be replaced. Radio shack may have a cheap toggle switch that can work for you.

Sony CFD G505 CD Radio Cassette-Corder - I have no power when power button is pressed. It is 6 months old. Could it be a fuse from a power surge. It was pluged in at an older trailer house. The lights do...

If it is only 6 months old I would recommend you take it back to where you bought it as it is still under warrenty. If you start playing with it and take it apart the warrenty will be void. But dont tell them about the old trailer house bit, just it stopped working.

Hi...every time I turn off my RV-B90 I have to unplug it and plug it back in before I can turn it back on. Any fix for this?

This was happening on mine and here is how i fixed it.

I would hear clicking from the cassette area when i first turned it on, and the door would be jammed and i had to brute force it open. The kaboom would not shut down by using the power button or remote. Nothing!

I found the tape mechanism was getting jammed out of place because of all the gunk so I cleaned the inside with isopropyl alcohol and a q-tip then moved the mechanisms back and forth with my finger on the bottom where the tape goes over the sensor.

I powered it up with no clicking and was able to shut it off with the power button and remote again. My power issues had to do with the tape player whodathunkit.

JVC Boomblaster RVB90 has problems to start after shut down.

If you have a cassette tape in the Kaboom take it out close the casstte door and lock it. See if the problem continues. The cassette circuitry has been known to cause alot of prolems like yours. I think it has to do with sensors.

The CD player is no longer working. Not sensing it.

buy a cleaning disk, or get a micro fiber cloth, and take the stereo apart and find the laser lens, near the motor that spins the cd, it will be pretty small, gently wipe it clean in one direction, if that doesnt work, the laser has quit working.

Pioneer SA 9800 Ampliffier Output transistor going off frequently

I assume these are the complimentary pair that drive the speakers. On one of the speaker. You know I think you have a short in the speaker that it drives. Speaker can fuction even if there was a problem with it. I think what happened is when the original transistors shorted out it overloaded the speaker, but not to a point where it is burnt. There is nothing that can overload a power transistor except the speakers, I design a lot of amplifiers, the base input can overload it if you put dc in there, but that would make a the sound all distorted, I assume the sound seem fine. Solution is try connecting a known good speaker and I bet it wont burn out anymore. Even if the speaker look fine don't trust it.

My sharp Stereo is stuck in '' protect'' mode

Protect mode is not something that a reset will fix. Basically it indicates that there is a problem with the final output stage of the amplifier. Normally this indicates that the output transistors are defective. In most boomboxes, the amplifier is a single IC. If you can post the model number, I can provide you with the required part and cost.

Intermittent Power Problem when playing CDs

Hello db1964,

I have a cdf-e75 that had a similar problem, although the red power light was dim for all functions. (the radio, tape and cd)
After opening up the unit and inspecting, I found one of the pins on the printed circuit board for the power had broken away from the solder. (it is a tiny board where the AC connector is soldered to) Seems in my unit there is nothing securing the molded AC connecter to the plastic case except the the printed circuit board it is soldered to-It is a poor design; perhaps your is the same? I suspect over time pushing the AC cord into the back of the player may have broke the connection? Anyway, I soldered the connection and I have never had any additional problems as the unit has worked fine since.
Don't know if this helps, but my suggestion would be to open the unit and inspect the pin connections on the AC printed circuit board to see if any have a loose/broken connection. ( Mine was not noticible with the naked eye as I had to use a magnifying lens and a bright light. Hope this might help.

Player won't turn on...period!

Did you try with batteries? If that works, the internal power supply fails. A handy person with basic knowledge of electricity measurement, some good screw-drivers, a multi-meter and a soldering iron may solve most probably the problem.( You find persons with such disease at most unexpected places) Getting spare parts in case of need maybe a little more difficult.
