Question about HP Pavilion Computers & Internet
I have components disappearing. Specifically: 1. CD/DVD Drive (this disappeared about 6 months ago) 2. Wireless Network Connector - Disappeared about three weeks ago. 3. Sound - Disappeared a week ago. By Disappeared I mean that: a) The divice no longer works, and b) It no longer appears in Device Manager. c) Microsoft's Troubleshooters cannot find or fix the problem. The machine originally had Vista installed but I upgraded to Windows 7 Home Premium as soon as it was released.
Have you tried to re-download the drivers?
Also, how old is your PC and has it been slowing down? It is possible that certain sectors of your PC are becoming corrupted and can no longer be read so they are no longer showing up/functioning. I would also make sure it is not a virus that is trying to change Root files, etc, which might restrict your access to certain features on your PC like audio, Wireless connection, etc
Worst case scenario, you can always go to a backup time/savepoint in your PC and see if the drivers are there. If they are still there, then it was probably not hardware (assuming they work and stay), but if you go back to a good time in your PC's health and the drivers are still not there/functioning it is probably hardware.

Was a faulty connection of the card to the slot. Guy at the repair point/store where I bought it did a reseat of card and it is fine.
Too bad I didn't try that first before I destroyed all I had set up on hard disk for 5 months...

SOURCE: Acer 5100 lost dvd/cd drive
Is the DVD drive listed in device manager under CD/DVD drives at all? If so, remove it and reboot. Windows might be able to re-detect and reinstall the drivers for it, but odds are the drive is bad. You can try removing the drive from the computer, and use compressed air to blow out the area where it connects to the laptop. Also check the connection on the DVD drive to make sure there isn't any physical damage, bent pins, etc.
Hope this helps - remember to rate!

Is the hardware listed in the BIOS? When the computer first starts up hit a key to get in the BIOS (Esc, F2 or F10 are most likely). If it's not listed in the BIOS then it's likely a hardware problem. Try checking the connections to make sure it's plugged in and getting power.
If it is listed in the BIOS, it's likely a problem within Windows. Check Acer's website for known issues with the cd-rom.

What you want to do is, first, make sure that the cables are connected to the cd/dvd player. Then, when you are in the device manager, right click on your computer name all the way on the top above all the devices, and click on scan for hardware changes.. If nothing comes up, restart computer and try this step again.
