Just as this person stated, when i start my sony DSC-W70 camera a word "access" appears in the
middle of the screen and then the lenses starts going out then in with
a noise three times, BUT, the screen sppears with some words such as "turn on and off the camera". WHen I do that, sometimes the lens does not retract all the way or at all. My playback of previus images works, but I cannot shoot. I don't recall dropping the camera or damaging it knowingly. I have not tried switching to a new card, which I will, nor "tapped" the lens, as suggest. I'll dot hat also and get back with you folks. Thanks for your efforts.

I've tried the "tapping" but to no avail. The lens does not appear to be misaligned. Any other solutions?

I have the same problem. All of a sudden, I am seeing the word Access on my camera when I start it up. One of the lights is blinking and I am prompted to turn the camera on and off. I have tried tapping the lens and taking out the memory card, but so far no luck.

i have the same problem..... i have tried tapping the lense and stuff put it just wont come out!!

  • minimoop Jun 06, 2008

This tapping fix worked for me after the third try. I used an exacto blade handle, tapping each lens - inner and outer when they were in the extened position, using just a little force like tapping a pencil on the table - first on the right side, then the left and the the top. After the taps on the top of the inner lens the camera tuned on and has been working ever since.

Apparently i have some bad news , its the lense which is misaligned or broken in terms of gears, the thing to do turn on the camera and make sure that lens is out and then LIGHTLY tapp on the lens the direction of which you feel that the lens is not equal legnth to the outer ring > place that looks uneven

I had the same problem, tapped the lens gently on all sides against the edge of a desk and it worked after that. Thanks

I was having the same problem, try removing the memory card and then start the phone. my camera works fone without the memory card but gives the same ACCESS message with the Memory stick. The card has probably been damaged or corrupted

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W70 "access"

Hi Guys

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news :(

Both your camera`s lenses are faulty. It is a common problem found on the DSC-W range of cameras and therefore not to expensive to repair.

The lens unit is only available as a complete unit from Sony. Your best bet would be to contact the retailer where you bought it and ask him for the details for your nearest Sony Service centre. It needs to be a Authorised service centre as there are software and settings that must be done after a lens replacement.

In my experience repair cost will be between 40 and 60 % of the price you paid for the camera.

Sorry there really is not anything you can do yourselves to fix these problems.

Good luck
