I assume you mean the Pr-12RX passive? That seems wrong to me, too. Put an ohm meter across the terminals of the horn driver and the woofer seperatly to see which, if either, is blown. If they're OK, look for a bad solder joint on the crossover.

Hi i have problems with my subwoofer it wont play it's an alpine 12'' type e with alpine mrp m350 amp. there is light on the amp. how do I find out my subwoofer is blown or what else can be...

ok, your amp is in protect mode. either the speaker wires are crossed and shorting out, your woofer's vioce coils are melted and the speaker is blown or the amp is dead.

to determine if the speakers voice coils are melted, and thus the speaker being blown is the reason for the "protect" light, simply push in the cone of the woofer in gently with your hand. the woofer should move a little more than an inch, without any resistance, before bottoming out. if there feels to be any resistance, like a rubbing or scratching, before the woofer bottoms out, then your voice coils are fried, and you need a new woofer.

Have Acoustimass 15 system. Subwoofer stopped working and I don't think the fuse is blown. Anyway it does not look blown.

OK - well "look" blown may not be a solid, engineering approved, check. You could take the fuse down to a local Radio Shack and have them test it. Good news is that they will probably have a replacement if you need it. OTHERWISE... Keeping the volume WAY down - you can try another speaker on that output. It doesn't really have to be a woofer, just something to verify the circuit is working. That should tell you if the pathway is good which then tells you if its the woofer or the amp/receiver.

What is a suitable gale gold woofer replacement?

Really does not matter the point is you can rebuild the woofer for less then replacing with a new one but to each his own on this. But as long as its the same size anything would do for this monitor speaker.

I do not mean to sound generic but its true a woofer is a woofer it is what it is sure there are brands out there but they all work basically the same.

All your doing is buying the name.

Thanks please do click the thumbs above to give me a postive rating for my efforts today,

Need to replace home theater subwoofer-Tivoli TDHT1 is the system

Hi,
You please check the ohms with the woofer watts so that the same frequency of the woofer you can fix of different company, otherwise there will be damage of the circuit board so please use the appropriate frequency of woofer speakers.

M-Audio StudioPhile DX4 4'' Woofer

The "voice coil" inside the woofer must be rubbing against the "yolk" plate. Meaning = it is mechanically blown(damaged) to a point but electrically intact.
My sugesstion is to take out the damaged woofer and "google" for a mew woofer with the correct impendance and size and mounting holes. If you dont know thw impendance, then you should go with at least 8 ohms. More ohms = less risk of overloading the amp. whick can cause a fire!

Good Luck!!
