Look,4K is latest technology in TVs so better if you are going to change or convert anything then be aware of what results you can face by that.
BTW I have to try it once to check.

Have Technics SA-EX500 connected to Samsung Smart TV. For tv channels the sound is perfect but when I switch to Netflix or HBOGO the sound is static/cackling.

Suggest connecting via the headphones jack or if available the RCA audio output jacks. If you connect via the headphone jack you will need to adjust the TV volume to a lower setting to avoid distortion/./ The The problem is that the optical output connection is a digital connection and depending on the digital format the Digital to Analog converter may not be a configuration that the audio stream to the stereo required for the tv/vcr in.

How does the audio sound using the Samsung Smart TV internal speakers>

Also under menus/audio/settings you may need to change the Optical output to stereo.

Netflix also has settings that will change the audio stream.

Hope This helps?

No optical plug on TV we wish to use it with. Have an optical to analog converter but can't get it to work.

If the TV has analog audio outputs, then you need an analog to digital audio converter. These converters are not bi-directional; thus the input can't be used for an output signal. This isn't clear from your description above. If your converter has optical IN and analog out, you might be better off with an RCA audio (M/M) to 3.5 mm cable (M) or adapter (RCA F/F to 3.5 mm M).

An analog to digital audio converter is here: http://www.gefen.com/kvm/gtv-aaud-2-digaud.jsp?prod_id=5278 . There are some converters that aren't compatible with all devices; you might want to try a different one. If you do have the correct converter, double check if you have enabled the external audio output on your TV. This will be in the Audio sub-menu for most LG TVs.

I hope this helps.

I need some help hooking up an amp, tv, and xbox 360 together please! I have a Toshiba 46g310u TV and Xbox 360 already hooked up together using an HDMI cable. I just bought a Yamaha R-S300 amplifier,...

Many TVs have to have the optical output enabled in a set-up menu. Do you see red when the connector is disconnected (which doesn't necessarily mean that it is active, just that it is 'ON').

Have you checked the amplifier to insure that the input is working by connecting something else directly up to it? Can you test the TOSLINK converter by plugging the output into something else to determine where the problem lies. I still suspect it is in the menus of the TV.

Hooking up a Bose Lifestyle 30 II to an optical audio output

Actually, you can do this. Just get an optical to RCA converter.
This looks like a good one: http://www.amazon.com/Cables-Go-40019-Optical-Converter/dp/B0002GV876/ref=pd_cp_e_2

Vizio SV470XVT will not output Dolby 5.1 from optical out..

TV's only will output 5.1 from HD stations. If you have a DVD player, XBOX 360, etc connected through HDMI, then the TV will only send stereo PCM through the optical out.

Problems connecting phillips tv to panasonic sc-pt660 home theate

I just bought a sc-pt660, I have a philips tv too, the TV only available output is digital coax but the home theater only has digital optical input, you may buy a digital coax to optical converter like this one:
http://www.amazon.com/Cables-Go-Coaxial-Optical-Converter/dp/B0002J2MV4/ref=pd_cp_e_3?pf_rd_p=413863501&pf_rd_s=center-41&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B000I98ZQY&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=1BS8MKCZ1CWQR071S8RN

Alternativelly you can also use the headphone output that is near the side input in the TV and buy an RCA adapter like this one from radioshack: http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2103225
