I am having that problem, in addition to the lines through my picture. I believe the flashing timer lite is some diagnostic code. I'll pass on any information I get. Good luck.

I have the same t.v. and the same thing just happened to me last night. I can only power on by the remote, it makes sounds like it's turning on but only the timer light flashes and I have a black screen. I will be calling on Monday to get a repair estimate, but if it's going to be costly it won't be getting fixed. My t.v is also just under 4 years old.

Yes we have the same problem.  All we have is a black screen.  When you push the on button the tv makes a noise like it wants to turn on but all you see is the red light on the timer mode flickering.  We have had our tv for just over 4 years.

I know this is a old problem but in case anyone in the future here has this problem, the problem lies in your convergence board ,mainly the stk`s are shot ,you can buy new STK`s for around 15 to 20 dollars and then will need some one to take old ones of and resoldering the new ones on.

anywho if you have this problem unplug or remove your convergence board and then turn on tv and you will see a picture, all colours will be out of convergence but when you put the fixed board back in colours should realign, or you may have to realign a little yourself.

only reason i am posting on this old problem is because was just given this tv samsung hcn473wx/xac for free and decided to fix it and it now works well.

I replaced the bulb in my Samsung HLP5674 wx xaa TV and now it turns off by itself intermittantly. How do I fix this?

You may have not gotten the lamp door switch positioned just right when you replaced the lamp door. It's been a common issue with Samsung in recent models. It's possible to defeat the switch by using a wire jumper across the switch plug and eliminate the problem all together if you're electronically apt.

Bright shadows

Is this a convergence problem? Did you try adjusting the convergence? IF the bright shaddow is also colored, that might be it. See this discussion:

TV turns on but no picture.

Just had the exact same problem. A Technician from an authorized Samsung service center checked mine and said the convergence unit was gone and it does not allow the TV to turn on. He demo-ed by turning the convergence off and the TV turned on but the picture is very poor and out of focus. He also told me a need a blue tube and other parts for a total cost of ~ $800. No impressed as this TV is only 4 yrs old and is now worthless.
