Radios especially AM bands are simple to work with. Its mostly about antenna adjustments, microphones,Swr, grounding. Check SWR on radio to say 1.5 ratio, which is good. Ground the heck out of it. Drive 8 foot copper stakes into earth, also to water pipes, metal filing cabinets, chain link fences...Connect all these to your radio metal, or black ground. The better the ground stronger the signal. Make sure Antenna is off the ground 15 to 35 feet. I use Tv pole on mine.Use big supergrade coax low-loss 50 ohm. All Am radio is 50 ohm loaded. Internal adjustments to radio is not needed.. But, if you do, make sure you chart what you did and mark your IF canisters with nail polish(setting factory). Clip diodes for Modulation or turn up a VR4 or VR1 or so. Each model has different setting Variable Resistors(VRx). Make sure you read all about it on DEFCOM RADIO MODS or SNAKE DOCTORS RADIO MODS--Before attempting internal adjustments..Use micro screwdrivers only. Remember the best antenna for CB frequencies is "102 inches" 8.5 feet. Build your own and have fun.

Modulation on 1001Lwx midland cb low need to know which pot to adjust

The limiter is what limits the modulation. Often times there is a pot that you can turn to adjust it. To get more power and swing out of your radio do this DM1 is the mod limiter RVM1 is the mod pot. Adjust this for maximum modulation. Spread the coils marked Lt5/LT12 just a little Spread LT7/LT11 a lot.

No modulation when transmitting

No modulation could be a problem with your mic or the factory setting inside the radio. Radios are set at about 50 to 80% modulation from the factory. This is adjustable in most radios. Search mod adjustment on XXX radio and you should get info as to where the mod adjustment is located inside your radio. Turning it all the way up will not hurt it but it could cause some distortion if turned too high. Up is turning it counter clockwise.
Modulation is not shown on all built in "S" meters, just power. There are bench meters which show both power and modulation available for about $50 and up.

I cant find the tune up so what can i do ?

I doubt there is a tune up for the the handhelds if you can't find it i couldn't find it some radios you just can't tune iam sure there is a power pod for it but i don't think its going to make much diffrence for example iam running a cobra 19 dx 4 i did find the mods for it but no pod adjustments there were but
i was told not to adjust them because it just not worth the time not much diffrence. so they only adjustment was mod and spread some of the transmitt coils and i did get 2 watts out of the radio with a 15 watt swing . hand helds are for short range. If you have a external antenna hook up you could get more range that way hook it up to a mobile antenna check swrs though. hope this helped you.

Hi, I need to adjust the modulationand power output on the yaesu vertex 2000 vhf radio. Can someone please tell me what vr to adjust.

You should be able to find a service manual at:

You may need to go into the "setup" menu to access the modulation settings. On some Yaesu radios, it's NOT a VR setting.

Reparing 29 LTD

Depending on what you mean by "off frequency". The 29LTD, like all other 40-ch radios is PLL controlled, referenced to a 10.240 Mhz crystal. The channels are all mathematically synthesized by a higher frequency VCO and the PLL controller chip. If the PLL detects the frequency is not "locked on" it shuts down transmission. If the frequencies are there, but "out of band" then I suspect that there has been modifications done to the radio to make it so. If you want the radio back to stock, undo the mods. If the radio is out of band, and no mods present, then there is a problem with the PLL. Sometimes that may stem from someone getting into the radio and "tightening all the screws". (the shops just LOVE those!)
If the channels are in band but seem a little off, there is some adjustment in the form of a small trimmer capacitor near the crystal. But to adjust it properly, you should employ a frequency counter.

Cobra 150 gtl

Do not open the limiter on these radios. You are asking for trouble. RV12 is the modulation adjust. It will give you all you need.
