SOURCE: could you please let me know witch transducer to

Here are your options:

In-hull Mount Transducer (200/50 kHz, 12/45 deg)

Thru-hull Mount Transducer with Depth and Temperature

Bronze, Thru-hull Mount Transducer with Depth and Temperature

Transom Mount with Depth, Temperature and Speed

Transom Mount with Depth and Temperature (200/50 kHz, 10/40 deg)

Thru-hull Mount Transducer with Depth (200 kHz, 12 deg)

It all depends on the type of boat and how you are going to be using the fishfinder. Here is my email: if you want to discuss your uses further and if you want to purchase a transducer.

SOURCE: Sonar is working erratically. Loses

I have a very similar problem. Unfortunately my boating season is over until next May. I found I was at software rev 2.30 and should be at 3.40 Some of the software updates were to resolve sounder problems.

My GSD 21 is mated to a Garmin 3210. Bought both componants new. Every single year since new it works 2-3 trips. Then just doesn't come on. Have to send it back to garmin who so far have waranted...

The GSD 22 is discontinued. I would not buy any electronics that are discontinued, because there has to be a reason.

If I were in your shoes I would be looking a full change to either the brand leaders, Raymarine or Humminbird. I have had Humminbird since 2007 with a 798SI and since 2014 with a 998SI HD. 100% reliable for GPS and depth. Boat used twice a week May to October. The 998 has features to set a chart course and I do that when coming from Toronto to Port Credit. Humminbird also do full chart plotters, but in Georgian Bay, I wouldn't have thought necessary unless you use an auto-pilot. Uses Blue Chart maps.

You aren't the only one to have problems. Read the link below.

I did find this thought and there are others in the thread

Make certain that the transducer(s) cable is separated from any engine power cables. When those wires cross or are bundled together, the highly sensitive sonar signal gets polluted with high amp noise bleeding off the engine wires, and you're lucky to get any signal.
To test if this is the problem, shut your engines off and see if you get a good sonar view. Then start the engines and see if the same sonar quality is displayed. If it degrades, you've got the current bleeding problem.
I had this problem when I installed the new gear (Furuno 585, Airmar b60) and ended up re-routing the transducer cable using some "wire hangers" to keep the transducer cable away from the others. Now I get a firm fix on the bottom at all speeds and the only time the display gets lost is when I reverse the starboard engine, from air bubbles under the thru-hull.

I have a Garmin 182c with a garmin GSD20 sounder unit ,if my transducer wire is cut or nicked would it cause the unit to unit to read " sonar turned off" ?

If you nicked it good enough yes it can. If the receiver doesn't detect the transducer, a digital message on the display will indicate this.

Can i install 2 x52 units on bow and stern with

Yes you would have to install a rotary switch between the displays and the transducer. You would also have to make sure to turn both displays off before switching the switch.

Sonar inop at most times . onec in a while it works fine

(1) bad transducer. (2) bad ground from unit to battery. The cable next to the battery will have no effect.
